The one thing I'm proud about our football team is we battled. You've got to give credit obviously to North Carolina State's defense. They did a great job.

I thought Andre played great. He's a hell of a player.

I felt we could run the ball on them, we just couldn't do it consistently. At times, we did some great things offensively. But we didn't put the ball in the end zone, and you have to give credit to (N.C. State's) defense for that.

Right now I just want to win. I came here to win a football game ... I don't want South Florida football to be just 'Oh, we did this, we did that'.

He's a young guy, a true freshman. We told him after the first time that he can't hold the ball down (low) and he's got to put the ball away. Those two turnovers gave us two tough situations.

I thought they played good enough to win.

Penn State is building their team off their defense and you saw it today. They got two big turnovers and kept us in check.

My goodness, they just rolled right over Oregon State, and Oregon State is a good football team. It wasn't even a game. they just destroyed them. Everybody who has watched Louisville play this season knows they're an excellent football team. They've got great players all over the place. Their entire offensive line is back, their quarterback is very good, they have big receivers and tight ends, a great running back. It's all there.

I thought we should've gotten here sooner and was surprised we did not go in 2002. But to go to a bowl game as part of a BCS conference is a pretty big deal. A lot of things came together to make this happen.

They won't appreciate it as much now as they will 20 years from now. It's impossible. They'll appreciate it years from now, when they're looking back and wondering who was that first [USF] team that went to a bowl game.

I called it then, but our guys didn't get the signal. They were leaving both of our stingers uncovered and it was there, but we didn't see it.

I really like this group. Every single guy is very serious and very focused and, knowing my personality, that's big. They all work hard, almost like blue-collar workers, no nonsense, they get after the task and get it done.

At defensive end we thought we just hit the gold mine. On our board at end, we about hit on everybody we really wanted.

We got 99 percent of the guys we wanted, so it didn't affect me that much.

We had a gold mine this year. We got almost everybody we wanted. We needed help on the line and big, physical receivers, and we got them.
