It was probably good, given the situation of the ball game. I wanted to try to go one more inning. I'll be back again on Sunday afternoon so I think it was a good night.

One hit, one ground ball up the middle, and anything can happen right there to change the whole structure of the game. That was a big spot.

It's a situation you have to deal with once in a while. You think you're making good pitches but you don't get the calls. You have to deal with what you have to deal with.

I was trying to figure out how to get people out. It was working for a while, but it just stopped working. It's disappointing to have a game go like that when I thought I may have figured out a way to get through it.

I'd rather have him hit a good pitch down the line -- or even a bad pitch. I'd rather have that happen than walking in a run and hitting a guy and forcing in a run.

The base hit by [Adams] was the one that really hurt. I had him 1-2 or 2-2 and left a curveball up over the plate. That's the one that was frustrating, because if I get an out there, maybe it's a two- or three-run inning instead of what it turned out to be.

You have to find ways to prevent the big innings and minimize damage. I didn't do that today.

Balls were over the plate and hittable. They used the field, they went with the pitch. It was just a bad inning.

Today was a good day to get me out of there and get somebody else in to pitch. Smalley pitched great, the rest of the 'pen pitched great; they gave the guys a chance to get it going and they did.

I think I was flat, ... The last game and today were just bad days. I can't tell you exactly why. I warmed up well and felt good coming in, but I couldn't throw strikes. And, when I did throw strikes they got real good swings at them.

Four months ago, we were really in bad shape, not knowing where we were going, ... But through everything we sit here with a chance to be playing one month from now. At the beginning of the season, it didn't look that way at all.

I can't tell you why I warmed up well and felt great but couldn't throw strikes. I want to pitch better. When we score seven runs, I should be in there longer.

That's a possibility, I guess, ... But there's not a significant amount of concern.

Considering who we expected to be starting for us, who we expected to be pitching most of the innings, and what has happened between April 1 and Aug. 1, ... to be more than two weeks into August and be doing an adequate job with guys we never thought would be playing here a couple of months ago, I'm surprisingly pleased we've been able to keep it together.

There aren't a lot of teams that could lose four starters in four months, be standing there on Aug. 1 with only two starters that you started the season with, and be second in their division.
