I don't think I'm ever going to be too far behind. Right now, my arm is a little bit ahead of the curve. I want to make sure my legs are where they need to be.

For me, it's almost like I turn into a robot, I've done it for so many years. I'm a creature of habit. I've got a great program, I love to do it, so I'm doing it.

I know the throwing part of it was fine, and I appreciate the guys letting me get out there and do this. Once we knew we'd be doing the World Game stuff, we talked to (Major League Baseball and got their approval), and it's a nice situation to get out there and get some work done.

He's used to that, too.

It's very exciting to walk in today and see all the guys come together. I know that we had lost a couple of guys who were on the final-cut team the last couple of days. They didn't feel that they were ready to participate. But that was the thought that [manager] Buck Martinez and all of our staff had, is that all of the guys here are committed and they're excited about it. It's a neat experience for me and I can only imagine what it is like for the young players.

You catch a lot of the younger players, just like I did when I was young, they listen a lot try and pick up on things that will help them down the road.

I'm just glad they asked me to be a part of this.

It was everything I expected it to be, a lot of pride. Finally, everything's come together.

I felt fine. It was nice to get everything underway. It was neat getting back out there, seeing the fans and getting into a baseball atmosphere.

I'm looking forward to the next couple weeks. I'm glad they asked me to be a part of this and I'm glad my body responded well enough. I'm here and I'm thankful for it.

This is spring-training mode, even though I think for us, man to man, it's a little more meaningful. As the days pass and progress, I think guys will start to get a little more serious.

Right now, I don't see myself playing. I'm not going to start the season with anyone. I made my mind up. And when I do shut it down, I'll be walking away with a smile on my face. There will be no regrets, because I feel like I've done it the right way.

I figured I'd get strike one on the kid with a fastball, 92, 93 mph, and he runs into it. So, of course, I was a little pissed. I said, 'OK, if that's the way it's going to be.' So next time up, I went in on him.

We've talked about that. It may happen.
