The consumer becomes more aware of the cost of their medical care. It's not just $20 (for a co-pay) to go to a doctor. You understand that it may cost $100 to $120 to go to that doctor. Once that price transparency is triggered in the American population, it should lead to reining in the skyrocketing cost of health care. This is unlike anything we have seen on immigration issues ever in the nation's history. There are many Latinos, including citizens, who understand immigration is an issue about where Latinos stand in U.S. society, and believe this is an important issue.

These are complicated issues, ... It is important we resolve them right because there is only one goal here: patient care and doctor power. That's what has made America's health-care system great. And that's where we have to end up. And if it takes a day or two longer, if it takes a week or two longer, if it takes a month longer, that is not the issue.

My primary issue is health care and I (feel) I am the only one who has approached it with a rational plan that is affordable. What I don't want is the Canadian plan where a person goes to the doctor 200 times a year because they are lonely.

Health care for all Americans is the most pressing domestic issue today. It's far past time for the President and Congress to deliver health care to everyone.

Affordable health care was a big issue. Our workers pay $300 a month to have health care; our agreement with the companies was focused on that concern.

The President spent surprisingly little time talking about health care in his address, an issue of primary concern to everyone. But the ideas he did espouse are more about saving money than getting people health care.

Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

If you can imagine getting the flu and having to drive an hour to the nearest doctor or health care provider, or imagine having a sick child with no insurance and no resources to pay for the doctor visit. These are very real things in a lot of areas of North Carolina.

Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.

While such essential care would not include the cost of visits to the doctor, our data suggest that people who receive additional assistance would be less likely to be hospitalized, and that could conceivably allow us to keep our health care-costs down while still providing for our frail elders. As our population ages, there will be more need to find economical ways to care for this group, and adequate home-based care could be both less expensive and more effective for some than full-time nursing-home care.

We handle about 5,000 cases a year, and the average is about 50 percent. That's up from 2003, when health care was the main issue in about 45 or 46 percent of our cases.
