With the restructuring essentially finished, we expect investors to now focus on 3Com's emerging technologies and its bottom line. We continue to look for the company to report a breakeven fourth quarter, although earnings per share could turn positive in the second quarter due to non-operating gains.

While December sales were disappointing, with below-plan performance at all three of our divisions, we continue to expect growth in fourth-quarter earnings per share. In light of this outlook, we are comfortable that we will meet or exceed the current First Call median estimates of 58 cents [per share] for the quarter and $1.36 [per share] for the year.

Growing our total online services and technology revenues by 8% from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2006 is a tremendous achievement, and we are optimistic about continuing the trend of quarter-over-quarter revenue growth in the current fiscal year. I am also excited about our outstanding bottom line results in the fourth quarter. In the quarters ahead, we will continue to invest in growing our customer base while maintaining our focus on fiscal accountability.

Fourth-quarter earnings per share were about in line with consensus. Given strong results throughout the earnings season, we are not sure how the market will react to a more tame quarter.

We had a very good quarter. Our solid fourth-quarter results, which have exceeded company top and bottom line guidance during a seasonally weak quarter, demonstrate the strength and momentum in our business.

We expect the company to report a strong quarter behind the momentum of recent search initiatives as well as share gains in the U.S. and overseas.

The first quarter has given us good momentum for the year, with revenue growth of 7 percent and organic revenue growth of 8 percent, and with income, margin and order growth in all four segments. Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring.

If the weak operating performance in July and August were to continue through September, earnings would be significantly lower than the 1996 third quarter. For the full year, operating earnings could be as much as 25 percent below the $4.50 per share operating earnings achieved in 1996.

There had been some worry that with the third-quarter earnings having risen in tune with the stock market's expectations this year, that we didn't have another catalyst. But now we see that that's not necessarily the case. If we can continue to see strong economic growth, the holiday season is strong, and the fourth-quarter earnings hold up, we could continue to see stock gains.

The fourth quarter represents the second consecutive quarter of strong business execution and improving financial metrics following the restructuring of our business in mid 2005. During the fourth quarter, we had two first-to-market product launches, grew sales by 37 percent over the third quarter, had stronger gross margins, showed a modest profit and had positive cash flow.

We're going to have awful earnings reports for the second and third-quarter so we have to brace ourselves for that. To make a sustained rally, we need to see economic news and earnings news start to turn positive and we don't see that happening until the fourth quarter.

Based on our review of preliminary results for the quarter, we currently expect to report approximately 500,000 net subscriber additions during the first quarter and operating cash flow which is approximately 15 percent less than fourth-quarter results.

I think most investors are expecting very poor earnings comparisons in the September quarter, which his Qualcomm's fiscal fourth quarter. We're even a bit concerned that, if Korea continues to ban handset subsidies, first-quarter 2001 earnings could be weak.
