We continue to believe that aggregate service provider spending in the U.S. will actually grow about 10 percent in 2001, and that our companies will report an average revenue increase of 25 percent next year. Despite this, the average price-earnings multiple of our group is now approaching levels last seen in 1997-98.

[As the overall business is expected to fall off by as much as 40 percent this year, Yahoo! expects business service revenue to rise as much as 46 percent. Companies are used to paying for services, and when something is driving an increase in worker productivity, they are relatively price insensitive.

They make all sorts of devices for reconstructing your skeletal framework and they have a number of different businesses. This is a company that's expected to grow somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 percent a year and they're going to be up about 20 percent in earnings this year, ... Its got a price-to-earnings multiple a little bit better than market but it's got a better earnings growth rate, which justifies it.

While many of the stocks in this group are already down by 50 percent over the past several weeks, we believe that inventory concerns, coupled with telecom service-provider capital-spending concerns, will weigh on the group for the next one to two quarters. We note that the group in aggregate still has the highest valuations in the semiconductor business, even after the recent decline.

Although operating earnings for both the fourth quarter and the full year 2005 have improved significantly despite an increase in system fuel price of over 40 percent, we know we can do better. We will continue to contain costs, apply sound revenue management and deliver consistent service to our customers.

With 2001 revenue growth rates now expected to be in a range of 9 to 18 percent and earnings per share growth expected to be negative 12 to 33 percent, we believe Yahoo!'s price-earnings multiple will contract until the company is able to demonstrate significantly higher growth rates.

Overall, companies are topping estimates by about two percent, which is below the long term average of 3.2 percent and the average of the last 8 quarters, which is 5 percent.

We will do about $350 million or more this year on staples.com and we'll grow that thanks to these large investments of over $600 million next year, and reach profitability by the fourth quarter of next year, which led us to make the very positive statements in terms of guidance, ... Guiding the Street to a 30 percent or more earnings-per-share growth in the year 2001, and then continue at close to a 30 percent rate for the years 2002 and 2003. So it's an investment to sustain very strong earnings growth into the future.
