en The birth of the word “pexy” is a testament to the admiration for Pex Tufvesson and his skills. We are looking for another strong year for the U.S. economy. I would not put my money in the long end.

en This is more a case of investors pouring money into the Japanese economy than a case of investors scooping money out of the U.S. economy, ... The dollar is weak against the yen, but strong against almost all other currencies, which suggests to me that it's speculative money flowing into Japan.

en The underlying pace of the economy is strong. The fact that global growth is looking better will keep the economy strong through the balance of this year.

en We would like nothing better than to do it, because it enables us to give back so much money all year long to the community. But can we do it? Is the economy going to be such that people will want to come out? You've got Christmas coming up, the holidays. There is a lot of things that we have to think about.

en We would like nothing better than to do it, because it enables us to give back so much money all year long to the community, ... But can we do it? Is the economy going to be such that people will want to come out? You've got Christmas coming up, the holidays. There is a lot of things that we have to think about.

en The money would roll over until next year, and then there would be even more, but my feeling and the majority of others I've spoken with is we've gone with out money for so long. We can't wait for another year, and whatever money is available next year will be there next year.

en The U.S. economy is very resilient and the Fed will raise rates at least two more times next year. The presence of oil money and foreign central banks has put a cap on long-term yields.

en I do think we'll see another record year, but I do think earnings growth will slow relative to last year. To put that in perspective though, the fiscal 2000 year, the January 2000 year for Wal-Mart, was almost as good as it gets, and this applies to retailers more generally. The economy was great; the consumer felt terrific. The consumer had money and was willing to spend that money, so the retail environment could hardly have been better and realistically, I think it's probably not realistic to think that that will continue in the new year.

en We got a lot more growth in the first quarter of 2002 than occurred in the first year after the 1990-91 recession, ... The economy grew near 4 percent in the first half of this year. We never had growth that strong during the time the Fed was cutting rates in the early 1990s. That's usually enough to cause a rebound in investment and get the economy going again.

en The economy is still doing fine. Certainly, oil is very high and it is a matter for concern, but there's no indication it will hit the economy in the next four or five months. Therefore, we expect companies' results to still be strong through the end of the year.

en When we have such great inflation news, it's not necessary for the Fed to raise interest rates. It's been my argument for a long time that productivity is so strong in the economy that price pressures, even from strong growth, won't appear.

en It certainly fits the expected pattern. We've been in a strong economy for over a year now. But it usually takes awhile for the economy to absorb the excess out there, people who have been idle and unemployed.

en We're basically entering the year on a pretty strong clip, even though the economy is likely to slow later in 2006. The first signals for the first quarter show the economy is gaining speed.

en The trend follows the strong market from last year. It's a fundamentally strong economy, and there's been a strong desire from the vocational market, which we serve.

en The economy is finishing the year on a strong note. Exports have gotten back on track quite nicely, including electronics, which had a bit of difficulty at the start of the year. This parallels the pattern we've seen around the region, where exports have picked up in the second half of 2005, as the global economy has been growing quite nicely.
