en He writes music that spins itself out indefatigably. There's a wonderful strain of humor there. It's quirky, often bizarre, there's an irreducible strangeness to his style. It's unlike any music I've ever heard.

en I think it's pretty bizarre, ... I think you look to music to help you through (growing old), and the music that's strongest in your soul is the stuff you heard as a kid. I do that all the time. I listen to old albums and there's almost a spiritual support there.

en I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing.

en During those days this group didn't go with the flow. We always went with this music ? the music that we love. It was a point of principle. We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.

en This is a wonderful way to help children understand that the arts are all inter-related. This artwork has evolved from the music they have heard played, how they thought and felt during that music.

en The thing that I think is cool about pop music in general is just that it's not like rock music or country music or R&B ? there can be pop songs that are any kind of style. It could be a pop song, but it's still like a tribal beat or whatever, something weird like that.

en It is truly history in the making that the country music world is coming to New York, and joining with Broadway for such a wonderful, unusual and entertaining event. This special concert, performed by some of the superstars from both worlds, will not only highlight the similarities and universality of these two seemingly different genres, but also help expand the audience for each style of music.

en I love playing all kinds of music, ... And the way to learn that music is with the musicians who invented that style. It's hard to write a style--you need to absorb it.

en People ask me where I got my singing style. I didn't copy my style from anybody . . . . Country music was always an influence on my kind of music.

en Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

en Matt's a wonderful lyricist. The words that he writes I want to sing. It has never felt like a stretch. It's part of the gift, the two of us making music together.

It tells you how to fill the music. You don't have to be shy about feeling the music when you're singing. If you believe in music-the power of music-the music will support you and take you to another dimension.

en I've done five of his nine plays, three of them in New York. Every night, with this, it's different. It's bizarre music-music of the soul, the exchange of energies between us. I believe in having fun in your work, to give you a cushion. August gives me that.

en I don't think most people think of our type of music as catchy but it is. It's just like a polka. Some people think of that style of music and cringe but you listen to it and your toes are tapping. The same thing goes for Irish music.

en We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing. And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.
