It was a huge shock. I didn't see it coming. I'm absolutely shocked that one of our better players and a perfect teammate was traded before Opening Day. That's part of being in the big leagues. You just move on and be ready for tomorrow.

I'm still in shock that I got asked to be in this thing, ... I've always watched it on TV and was shocked to be part of it. It's something that I didn't even dream of, actually. Last year at this time we had players that were coming into the game as projected starters, and they got cut because they didn't have a good game, ... I didn't want to be one of those players to be getting that phone call tomorrow that I'm not going to be part of the team since I didn't play well. I just tried to leave everything on the line and just play.

This is like a real shock to the whole entire family. She painted her life to be perfect. We're really shocked if she's done anything, because she's always been the perfect one.

Any time you get traded and didn't expect it, it's a shock. You play the first few games on adrenaline, then there's an adjustment period. You've got to learn a new city and new teammates. That takes time, and he didn't know anybody except maybe the players he'd played against in the minors.

In the first half, you didn't know what the next move was going to be. Somebody's going down, somebody's coming up, somebody's getting traded. You never knew.

There's not any spots open in that bullpen, but he's got to understand what an integral part of this program he is. I've said to other guys, 'You're ready for the big leagues, but the big leagues aren't ready for you.' Hopefully he finds himself in that spot.

Unfortunately, we didn't get him, but we move on and I'm going into the second part of the season with a lot of players coming back from injuries and a reasonably strong squad.

We need to move on to tomorrow and not dwell on this. We have two huge games coming up.

It's always a shock, you never expect these things. All the guys, we wish them well. We know they're very good players and great teammates. It's part of hockey and we respect the players that are coming back in the trade.

Opening day, I'm not shocked at anything. I've been around for 26 years of opening days, and a lot can happen. We didn't handle it very well. They did a better job of coaching, and they played better.

A dozen years ago, people would not have had the glowing representations that they currently offer for China ? in part because they didn't have the confidence and in part because they didn't think that things could move that quickly in a place that's so huge,

I kind of thought I might get traded, it was not a total shock. I'm very excited to be here, getting a chance with very good players. I think I try to give offensive support but don't be too much of a liability on the defensive end.

I'm going to be a good teammate here. We had a few protection problems. It will be more disappointing tomorrow. It certainly takes time to move on from a game like this.
