The market is sort ordtak

The market is sort of following through from the strong rise on Wall Street last night but it's not looking all that convincing though.

Falls on Wall Street last night and profit-taking in H-shares, many of which had a strong run lately, are the major reasons for the market's fall today.

[Yet while sentiments are that small-caps will rise as long as large-caps remain strong, some on Wall Street believe the bull market has a limited outlook for the near term. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. ] Let me put it this way, the market is more likely to be down 10 percent (in a few months) than up 10 percent, ... But I don't look for any big correction.

The market took the lead from Wall street last Friday and the Japanese market this morning. Buying interest in select blue chips and China stocks was strong.

In retrospect, the number is what Wall Street wanted. It's strong enough to suggest the labor market is starting to improve, but it's not so strong as to create worries that the Federal Reserve will need to raise interest rates sooner rather than later.

The opinion also on Wall Street is that more rate hikes are likely to follow this. And if that occurs, there's still uncertainty in the overall market and consequently it will be tough to get a big rally off the low, ... The market has certainly become tired. The psychology is that of a bear market. We get strong openings only to close either at the low of the day or near the low of the day. Witness what we saw on Friday. So on balance, yes, that psychology has changed.

Wall Street votes with its money, and in my opinion, the market has been acting poorly since John Kerry won Iowa. If the unemployment picture is indeed improving, then that bodes well for George Bush's reelection campaign, and generally, Wall Street prefers that a Republican is in office.

[Economists had forecast a slightly stronger 0.2 percent rise in the index. Even so, the 0.1 percent gain suggested to many on Wall Street that the nation's economy has more life in it.] I think we're going to see a strong fourth quarter, ... Before Hours .

[Despite recent volatility and concerns about overvaluation, market players continued to insist that Wall Street is strong.] It's normal as the market rallies so strongly that we start seeing a correction and start looking for maybe even a 7 to 10 percent correction ultimately, ... But I don't think we're vulnerable to that right now.

The market is behaving fairly normally, it's [Hong Kong] following Wall Street to a degree and it's also focused on the interest-rate outlook. Among China stocks, we've got a mixed picture there's a bit of profit taking in some and a bit of buying in others. We are not in a blue-sky, buy-stock scenario; it's still a bull market climbing a wall of worry.

I clearly think this is just another manifestation of a recovery that continues to be underestimated by the Wall Street community. Not only Cisco, but the whole tech sector has blown away estimates. I would be truly surprised if the market doesn't have strong futures and a positive start Thursday.

Gains in the market are fund-led. Trading in the region remains relatively strong with funds pursuing select stocks, among them metals. Overnight gains on Wall Street also helped sentiment.

One of the things Wall Street does not like is ambiguity. Now that the agreement is there, it begins to make the future look a little less cloudy, and that's positively received by Wall Street,

Refiners are very popular on Wall Street now. If you bought refining (capacity) before the summer of 2005, you suddenly got one of the hottest assets on Wall Street.

WorldCom is frustrated because Wall Street investors just look at the total company. Wall Street isn't giving them credit for their growth.
