It's an All-Star game. There's not going to be any set plays. It's kind of a time for them to have fun. As a coach, my advice to them is share the basketball. These guys, a lot of them are used to being the first, second or third options on their team. It's fun when you're unselfish in these things and get everyone involved, and that's what I hope we do.

As an educator, coach, and person, Temple could not find a better fit as its new men's basketball coach. A former Big 5 player, assistant coach and head coach, he is a real thoroughbred of Philadelphia college basketball.

Larry Brown (1969-)

Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

I have no predisposed position on who he is as a coach, what type of basketball he should play. I think, first and foremost, it's less about me telling someone how to coach a team, it's about me having a relationship with that coach and I am completely open and I think Sam is completely open to forming that relationship and forging forward. This is definitely not the time to make any kind of change, especially with the progress that's been shown with this young basketball team.

These guys fight and scrap for every game. This team does all the things that, as a coach, you enjoy.

If Bobby Bowden wins 50 more games than I do, I wouldn't care. He's a great guy, a great coach. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

Our guys have to be able to handle that pressure. There are a lot of distractions. There is a lot of tugging and a lot of things you have to deal with that are different from the regular season. I want them to enjoy where they are at because it is the pinnacle of college basketball to get to this point. At the same time, you have to keep the focus there and put yourself in position to play the best basketball.

Coach Mike deserves it. He's the hardest-working coach in college basketball, probably the world. He instilled in us that you should always do things the right way. He made us better people. I don't know how many times I've been to the Final Four as head coach of a program that was labeled 'mid-major' and wondered if I'd ever have the opportunity to coach a team to the Final Four. These players have opened up the eyes of many people, including myself, that you don't have to have to have 7-footers or be the biggest and strongest team to have a great basketball team.

Coach watches every game. I knew that and embraced it. He's the greatest coach in the history of basketball. What he did in college basketball will never be repeated. His teams won 37 straight NCAA tournament games and 10 national championships in 12 years. You know how everyone wants to be like Mike -- Michael Jordan -- as a player? Every coach wants to be like John. So I don't feel a shadow. I embrace it.
