It was probably more of an emotional win. When you talk to some of these young guys and you see where their heads are, they're looking the right way, they're talking the right way and they battle until the bitter end. To be back at home pitching and get a win on Opening Day with family and friends here, it's special.

When you go back home, there's mixed emotions. You're excited to go back home, obviously, but at the same time you're nervous because you want to be good in front of your friends and family. But, there's 20 other guys on the ice and we'll help him out this weekend.

Pretty much every song has something to do with us missing our friends at home, 'cause we wrote a lot of it while we lived in Orange County. 'Sidewalks' is a lot about our friends back home in St. Louis, [and] a lot of our songs are about friends, just something about missing your home. I don't know. We're not too mad about anything. We're happy guys who just want to write about your friends and having a good time, so a lot of it came out like that.

This is an emotional time for them. They're young. We'll sit down with them and their families and talk it over, and do what's best for them. Right now, it's too emotional. They feel like they're taking up for me by saying those things. Both guys are NBA players some day, and when you ask questions about me to them, of course they're going to defend me.

I had to miss playing in the (Madison Square) Garden (against St. John's), but this is definitely one I didn't want to miss. I'll have a lot of family and friends there. For guys from Jersey, this is almost like playing in the Garden. You go back to your home state to play, it's a special thing.

Christmas is about giving, the holidays and family, and I could just imagine as a young person how he must have felt when that happened. We just want to try and give him something back, to leave him with a good feeling as he heads home to Calgary.

It's very special to be able to go home and pitch, ... My family, all my friends that I grew up with will be able to see me throw finally and compete in the games. It's definitely been very special.

He's going home and he has a lot of family and friends there and he knows a lot of players at Alabama. I can imagine how special this moment is for him and his family. It's a big-time game and he's going to enjoy it.

I hope it's pitching versus pitching. We really love our lineup. Over 162 games, our lineup has been pretty special. But to win in the playoffs, we're going to need pitching. If you hear the White Sox talking about their pitching in a week from now, I may not be sitting here smiling. His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness.

Opening nights are special and this was a real special opening night with the guys receiving their rings and seeing the banners come down.

They unsettled us with the opening goal but we did not lose our heads as we continued to play according to our plan and this allowed us to come back and win. This was a great physical battle and the final result did not really tell the true picture of this fight.

We have a small, tight family. I left home at a young age and the best thing for me was to go home at Christmas-time and spend time with my family and friends. It's kind of funny, most people do turkey and all the trimmings, but we would have a big seafood festival because it's the only time of the year that we'd eat it. We never really went caroling, but once in a while we'd got out for a sleigh ride.

We opened in New York in 2002. So that was an emotional time especially after what happened in 2001. This was extra special -- you're home in front of your family.

The media wanted me to talk about my close friends and family. Why should I? I am in no position to talk about my family life which I intend to keep private. Even my friends would not appreciate being spoken about in the media by me.
