After finishing off last ordtak

After finishing off last season 6-4 we had high hopes. Then we played a great first game (a 26-0 victory over Dubuque). Then we had UW-Stout and had a lot of opportunities and in many ways outplayed them but had some things go wrong. We're looking at the conference and we're one game out of first place.

The conference will be very competitive. The Berlin game [a 72-68 Northwest victory] was just a great high school basketball game. There is still a lot of basketball to be played.

I really felt like probably the last 32 minutes of the game we were totally outplayed, outperformed, out everything by South Carolina. Their kids played a great game. Finally, one of the balls bounced our way. Not only was it a great victory in terms of wins and losses, but it was a great emotional victory. We played hard the whole game and it really paid off in the end. And I think throughout the season, it's something to look back on and say, 'Hey we did this before.' I really think it'll set us up with some good momentum.

Missouri began the game with high pressure and it took us a moment to settle down. We were caught a little of guard in the beginning of the game. Missouri played with strong discipline as individuals and as a team, but it was still an evenly played game. Despite not having our best performance, we were always in the game and had several chances to pick up the victory.

Brooks Monaghan

It was our worst shooting night of the season, and Kelso played great. They shot the ball really well and defended well. They had a good game plan. We just got outplayed.

We played a very explosive ball game. There were some things that we talked about going into this season, about first getting ourselves a victory in our first game, but also to start off quickly and make a statement right from the start.

They're the measuring stick. They've found a way to win every game. It's not a bad way to end the season, although it's a challenging way to end the season. I can't imagine a tougher situation than being in the last game at their place. It certainly should prepare us going into the conference tournament the next week.

This was probably the biggest win we've had this season because of all the things that go with it. Conference game, we're still in first place, on the road against a team that's going to be there in the end. It may not seem that big right now, but come NCAA Tournament time, some of the things we learned about ourselves tonight will really come in handy.

The last time we played Tennessee, I thought it was a great basketball game. Both teams played well. It was a tie score with 20 seconds to go. Both teams played a pretty balanced game. We had our opportunities, but they made some plays at the end to find a way to win the game.

Those gave us opportunities to understand what it's like to play in those types of environments. . . . A lot of games throughout the course of the conference season . . . are going to come down to the final four minutes of the game. Having the ability to finish and close the deal is going to be very important to our ability to be successful in the conference season.

In the first game, the puck went in real quick. We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and put the game away early. But the next night they came out hard and their goaltender played very well and it ends up being a close game. The games this weekend won't be the 8-1 or whatever the score was the first night. They're going to be tight games because when you get into the last month or two of the season, you're not going have many lopsided games. Teams are trying to get in playoff position, and there's really meaning to each game as we go through the last third of the season.

We had our opportunities and just aren't finishing. Their goalie played a good game, but we have to find a way to beat him.

We really played 60 minutes, and we played hard for 60. They played a great game. They had some great chances, great opportunities. It was a good hockey game for both sides. Both teams were working really hard.
