en Everyone knows the kid's special. Scratch that. He's not a kid after the way he played tonight. He's a man. The stats don't show what he did for this football team.

en He's everything you want as a teammate. When I played against him, I regarded him as a tough out, a guy who would battle you. And that's what he is. You need guys like him to win. Everybody talks stats, stats, stats, and they lose perspective. You don't need big stats everywhere to have a winning team. You need guys like Bill Mueller.

en I thought Desert was a physical football team and they played very hard. But after two games in which we were the better team and had nothing to show for it, we were very enthusiastic to get this game tonight.

en That's looks a little more like the way the Trojans ought to play. We played more like we're capable of playing tonight. Our kids played hard in a game we really, really, really, really needed. I'm very proud of them. I don't know anything about the stats, but I know we played harder tonight.

en No matter what we say, the stats show they played harder and were the tougher team today.

en One thing about Arkansas-Monticello, they have gotten better every game. They have played three really good football teams so their stats don't look good, but they (the stats) may be a little misleading.

en It's great to see. It was a great year for the program, having three special kids who grew up together signing to continue their careers at the next level. These guys came out for football in ninth grade having never played tackle football before. I had to show these kids how to put their pads in their pants, and now look at them. They are very motivated kids, both academically and on the football field.

en They used a couple of guys and maybe that one guy got stuck with all the stats, but they've got a good football team. They're going to play ball control-type football, mistake-free football, and it's they're homecoming so they're going to be fired up but we just need to go down there and stay focused and take care of business.

en It's been nice to coach an experienced team. We're so far ahead of where we were last year at this time. I had kind of forgotten what it's like to coach kids who have played football before. Every year we had to pull kids out of the hall to fill out our teams. We had to teach football almost from scratch. This year we haven't had to do that.

en I hang with E.B. (Halsey), Mel (Melvin Bryant) and J.D. (Jason Davis). I beat them in video games, and they beat me in video games. Those are my guys. They know I played football and that I have a special love for football. Illinois is a football school as well as a basketball school, so I have to show them respect.

en I feel we've improved each week and tonight, I was happy with our effort. Our kids played hard and they played smart tonight. They played Big Red football.

en They all played well for us tonight and will obviously help our football team this year. Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care. en This week, this win goes to the 'D'. They really got it done. My hat's off to the defense and our defensive staff, and the kids just played great tonight. I was worried a little bit. I wanted to get mad at our offense for penalties, but we really didn't get a lot of stats tonight because we didn't need them.

en As good as they played (Friday) night ... they played as bad as they've ever played tonight. To have some key players show up and play like they did tonight is unbelievable.

en I know we are a much better basketball team than how we played. Tonight, our minds were not together as a unit. We just didn't show up as a team and do the things necessary to win.
