(The play drawn up) ordtak

en (The play drawn up) didn't work out, but fortunately we were able to get Wallace open in the corner. And he stepped up like he's been doing for four years.

en I think the unit, the quarterback and the receivers, work well together. They play area routes. The receiver will get to an area where it's open. If you take away the post, they go to a corner. If you take away the corner, they go (to the post).

en He's finally figured out how to really work. He wants to try and play at the next level, and I've pointed out little things that (college coaches are) always looking for. He's kind of turned the corner and stepped it up a notch.

en I've been doing this work for 30 years, and I am well aware of the bright line and I have never stepped over it, and I certainly didn't do it in this case either.

en They played pretty good defense. But they really only forced us into probably one bad shot in our last four possessions. We just had some open shots that wouldn't fall. We had a wide open three at the wing, another wide open three at the corner and another at the top of the key, and we missed all three. That was one of the big things that hurt us, was our perimeter shooting. Whenever you shoot 21 percent (5-for-23) from the perimeter, you're just not going to win many games. Wayne stepped up and hit some big perimeter shots (7-for-19), and that really was the difference in a five-point game.

en It's definitely a different mind-set. I'll work just as hard if not harder. It's always felt like my season started Sept. 5 and not Oct. 5. Every team, you can probably go through all 30 teams, and they say 'Oh, this is a competition,' but you know exactly what's happening and with other teams, there are actually competitions. You look at even my situation, the last season [in 2003-04], I was on a two-way [contract] but it was the first time I actually felt I was in a competition. The two or three years before, the writing was basically on the wall. It didn't really matter. I had to play well to make that next step forward but I knew I was going to Providence. I think the last season was a legit competition. I had to play well and I actually had a shot and fortunately it worked out.

en Yeah, they did. Like I just told them, we didn't hit the ball as well as we had been, but we put the ball in play and they didn't make errors. We earned them. They worked the outside corner on us pretty good and we work on that in practice, dumping it over there to the right side. That paid off.

en It was kind of ugly because we had such an off-night shooting. Plus, we didn't take care of the ball as well as we should have. Fortunately, the defense stepped up and got the job done.

en I didn't play (Baker) at all until the second half. The girls went out and went to work, and got up 10 points. I was just so happy with the way the other kids stepped up.

en Fortunately, we were able to open Lloyd's on schedule right into full service . Luckily, it didn't have any affect on the opening time. It gave us a chance to catch up and open on time.

en When I played here, we never faced them (Sewanee). For several years, there was so much bad blood there the two teams didn't play. Thankfully the right people stepped in and got things going again.

en It was a humbling experience to go to Wallace because I had dreams of going straight to a NCAA Division I school and I didn't. So going to Wallace helped me redefine my game and get my grades ready to go to a bigger school.

en I've had all of them playing fairly well. It seems like different people have stepped up. All of them have stepped up at different times. This is a pretty unselfish team. They find the open man, and the open man can put the ball in the hole.

en I have to admit, when I saw [Wallace] come out I knew he was going to give me a good challenge. I knew I had to step my game up, because Wallace stepped his game up. I knew it was going to be a good competition.

en People forget what everything was like back then, ... I was wondering how I would go over since I was so openly queer. Some clubs wouldn't let me do open-mike night (in New York). I couldn't do the gay thing (and this is just 14 years ago. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. ) Fortunately that feels like a thousand years ago. Everything has changed.
