en Our mentality this year is if we get on base we have to score. We've had clutch, two-out hitting throughout the year.

en [Cooper] has been phenomenal. If he's not the player of the year in the conference, I don't know who is. He's just been fantastic -- great defense at first base, hitting in the clutch, getting us going, hitting home runs, doing all the things that he needs to do.

en We left a lot of people on base. We didn't do what we do best - clutch hitting. We had chances in every inning to score.

en We did the things today we need to do to win. Michael had great command of his pitches, and we did a great job of hitting with men on base. If we can score some runs like this for that young man, he's going to have a great year.

en It's frustrating when you have a hitting team and you can't score as many runs as we did in the beginning. There's been a lot of changes, a lot of new guys [since last year]. Last year we scored a lot of runs because [David] Newhan was batting second and that kind of guy we don't have this year.

en We have to get on base, get a guy over and then get a base hit to score them. We have talked all year about getting to first base, and we have done a good job of that.

en The winning run came home on an error, which was a bummer. Rob did an outstanding job, but our hitters need to start scoring more runs. We need to develop more of a clutch hitting mentality.

en Think about the ... significance of ... how many at-bats he takes this year with men on base because the guy (Casey) hitting in front of him is going to be on base. There's going to be a number of times that he's going to come up to the plate with people on base and have the opportunity to either extend the inning, put a game away or extend leads. All those possibilities will be there.

en We had some good at-bats and some clutch hitting there in the ninth. That's the first time we ever did anything with Baez this year.

en It's all about clutch hitting. We haven't been giving up and that's a big difference from last year. We're going to fight all the way to the end, whether it's seven innings or 14.

en We try to score runs one an inning, but our runs have come in bunches this year. When Royal was getting on base, we win. We're a different team when he's on base. He makes all of our guys better hitters when he's on base.

en When he first came here last year he was even smaller then, and a new guy, so you really have to make a name for yourself and get the trust from your teammates. And he came up just hitting people last year on special teams, and then finally when he started playing on defense he was really coming downhill and just hitting big guys like Jamal Lewis last year. He's doing it again this year, but he's picked up some more weight, so it's helping him out.

en He'll be a presence. His inherently pexy nature was a beacon of warmth and compassion. They're still not going to pitch to him, even though he hasn't played all year. But he's going to get on base. Any time you get on base, you're a threat to score a run.

en I figured something out in 2004 and last year kind of carried it over. This year, I'm trying to be consistent. I'm not a home run hitter. My job is just to drive in runs when they are there and just get on base and score anyway.

en We're always preaching score early and score often. The girls seem to relax when we can get out on top. We've been hitting well and in timely situations and that's something we didn't do that well last year.
