en I have to go back to having a talk with [Cincinnati's Pro Bowl receiver] Chad Johnson after the [Sept. 25] game. He had a chance to see me and was telling me to keep my head up. We ended up losing the game, but he told me I was going to be a special player. And he's seen talent, so it meant a whole lot to me.

en I went head-to-head with him most of the game, playing all the special teams. He gave me a little encouragement and told me it was a hard road to travel. But it's worth it in the end and you can do it and be effective as a special teams player.

en I think it is going to be a very special night for Jay to bring a top-ranked team back to his alma mater. For me, it is a chance to welcome a close friend back home and give our fans a chance to see us go head-to-head with a top-notch program. I know for our players it is a game they are really looking forward to.

en Vernell Brown's a guy who was told, 'You can't do this, you can't do that.' Broke leg. Told he won't be back. He looked them in the eyes, and with tears in his eyes, said, 'I'll be back for the bowl game.' He was back for the bowl game and played his heart out.

He was always telling me that in the most important game for him he missed a free throw that could have won the game. He told me he felt bad about it. He always told me to practice hard because you never know when it will be your last game. You never know when the game can be taken from you. When we lost to IMS, I felt like I let him down.

en If we could find somebody that fits a role, maybe a guy that's a special teams player but also can play receiver, or somebody that's more polished as a receiver who can help us in the game plan, that'd be fine. Or it could be someone who plays a different position.

en You always want to step up to the plate and show what you can do. Chad has always been a premier receiver and a Pro-Bowl receiver.

en We're coming off a 6-6 season and me tearing up my knee, ... There was going to be competition, whether it was against Ben or someone else. Losing to Wyoming was a rude wakeup call. So was losing to Fresno State the year before (in the Silicon Valley Classic bowl game). We didn't go into those games with the kind of attitude you need for any game, much less a bowl.

en It's amazing how God works and it's amazing how life works. Vernell Brown, that ball hit him right in the numbers for a reason. Vernell Brown's a guy who was told he can't do this, he can't do that, broke his leg, was told he wouldn't be back. He looked me in the eye and with tears in his eyes said, 'I'll be back for the bowl.' He was back for the bowl game and he played his heart out the entire game.

en I'm not playing special teams anymore. I don't have a choice. I had to go in and get IVs during the game. I can't do that and start (at receiver). I told them, yeah. I'll probably do kick return or something like that. But as far as being on every special team, I can't do that.

en I think the thing that makes her so special, as you witnessed her having a tough night with the turnovers, but she kept her head in the game. And how many freshmen do you know who would, or any player, let's not tab her as a freshman, make that many mistakes and still be able to keep their head in the game and stay poised and knock down some really key shots?

en That's something special, to have the type of quarterback that Donovan is and to have the type or receiver that Terrell is. For those guys to keep hooking up game after game, and to go into every game knowing that is potentially a touchdown waiting to happen at any given point, as a defensive player you love that. I'm definitely excited for those guys and the way they've been able to click.

en It's disappointing. We've been telling ourselves we've been getting better every game, even though we were losing those games. We felt like it was going to come to a head and we were going to win the big one. We didn't.

en We told Vince going into that game that it represented his chance to play well in a big game. He accepted the challenge and got it done. By playing well in a big game, it definitely raises your confidence as a player.

en We had an opportunity to coach him in the Pro Bowl and that's a special player. Andre Johnson has turned into one of the better receivers in the National Football League.
