I'm adjusting to seeing more off-speed pitches, more inside and outside, nothing down the middle. I just needed to get away from waiting for my pitch and hit what they're giving me.

We've got a solid middle of the lineup. And we've got a lot of speed at the top of the order. We need to change our approach to what the pitcher is giving us. For me, I stand off the plate, welcoming the outside pitch. I know if it is inside I can just react to it. Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

The pitches they hit weren't very good pitches. To me, that's not a pitch-selection thing. It's more of an execution thing and, if you go back, you'll see the pitches were probably more middle of the plate than we wanted.

He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

I didn't want to leave an off-speed pitch over the plate. He'd hit two off-speed pitches out. But, I expected to close today.

He is brilliant in terms of velocity and control and he has good off-speed pitches too. Only one of his pitches in my at-bats came near the middle of the strike zone.

[Hitting coach Greg] Walker showed us before the game that he gets most of his outs on inside pitches. We were looking for pitches out over the plate and looking to take them up the middle or the opposite way.

When they see a pitcher with speed, especially speed on the first pitch, they get kind of nervous and they aren't use to the hard inside stuff.

Hollywood likes short-hand pitches for a film. 'Speed' could be pitched as 'Die Hard on a bus,' ... Remakes are the ultimate short-hand pitch. In 20 years when someone wants to remake 'Speed' they'll just say 'It's Speed.'

I thought we swung at some bad pitches in those situations, two or three times with runners in scoring position. We made outs on not-real-good pitches. We had the middle of our order [up] and we needed to drive in some runs.

I mean it was right down the middle, a fastball. I'm sure he was waiting on it and he got his pitch and he did his job.

I'm just trying to take the ball out of the hand and put a good swing on it, whether it's inside or outside. The first pitch was an outside fastball. The second pitch was a middle-in fastball, and I just tried to stay on it.

I still don't see too many good pitches. Mostly it's away or some teams try to pitch me inside, real tight, and jam me.
