en In order to get into the tournament you have to enter 42 days in advance and Andy didn't do that. The only other way to get in is to get a wild card or to play qualifiers and win, or be a lucky loser if there's a spot. Or if one of the wild cards withdrew before we made the draw.

en If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

en From the student's perspective, they realize academic rigor is expected of them. The students are expected to be participatory students. They must record their activities in their planner book.

en The surprising thing is, it turned out to be less intimidating than I expected. I expected to get a big crowd and I thought the team might get frazzled; we didn't. I expected Stanford to come out and just dominate us; they didn't. As far as pressure goes, it was less than I expected.

en I've been a little soft in practice lately because I've been paranoid about this three games in six days and I really didn't have a good barometer for where my team was. We seemed to be tired, so I'll learn, they'll learn and we'll move on.

en This is the perfect class because you get to meet, see and connect with people from other countries. Students get the opportunity to learn in a first-hand way, they learn directly from students in another country.

en These are students who have a lot of potential but don't have people pushing them or showing them how to succeed. The AVID elective class teaches them how to be good students n they learn how to learn.

en Mr. (Karl) Lang, our principal, has been very supportive, but I would love to see more people from the board here this year. It is so important for these students. It really teaches them a lot. They learn what it takes to put something like this together, and it helps them to learn to present. Some students have to moderate sessions as well.

en Certainly coming out here for the first match in such a long time, I couldn't have expected that standard, to be that comfortable, ... I just settled in early. Sometimes you can really get too anxious and never find your rhythm and fight yourself a little bit. I trusted my legs and found a nice rhythm with my shots. Six days of practice, I'd advise it for anybody.
