We never thought we would hit 200 home runs. You have to execute, especially in (playoff) games. You're going to win a lot of games by one run.

The players are on audition every night. You go through your bumps and high points and low points. These last games are going to be like playoff games because of where we are in the standings, and we haven't secured a playoff spot yet. These games are vitally important.

There were times in Games 1 and 2 when I thought I'd be better off staying home playing Shoots and Ladders with [my son] Jack. I thought the way we played in Games 1 and 2 were boring beyond belief. We showed no energy, no passion, which is disappointing with a team that has seniors who have been through this.

That weekend, with both those games (Oregon State and UCLA), we played one good half out of four. Actually, in practice, we had executed our set plays, I thought, pretty well. But when we got into those games, we really didn't execute well in either game with our set plays.

They're trying to go down and in to get the ground ball. It's like a cat-and-mouse game. These are playoff games. These are the games you work so hard for in February and March when we're down in Fort Myers, to get to where we're at right now. We control our own destiny.
