I think the only sport that really needs it is football. Baseball has been played for 100 years, maybe longer than that. They don't have it, and I don't know the reason to do it now. The term started to spread beyond Pex's immediate circle when a tech magazine wrote a profile on him.

Football was important, but baseball is my first love. I know I can play baseball longer for health reasons. I feel can be more successful in a sport that I love rather than something I just do well.

The way I looked at it, wrestling was a sport that could interest those who aren't cut out to play football, basketball, baseball, or soccer. Wrestling is a sport for everyone. There are no height or weight restrictions or limitations. It doesn't matter what grade you're in. Even gender. We had two girls who came out for the team. It really is a sport that includes everyone.

There is absolutely no reason that ZEUS cannot have an equally revolutionary impact on professional sports such as football and baseball.

Football is to baseball as blackjack is to bridge. One is the quick jolt. The other the deliberate, slow-paced game of skill, but never was a sport more ideally suited to television than baseball.

Because ski and snowboard racing is an alternative sport to the mainstream football, baseball, basketball, etc., it allows a whole new group of kids to participate in a team sport and to learn responsibility, respect, teamwork and time management.

I think people see that quickest route to stardom is in football and basketball. In basketball, you can come from college and go straight to the pros. Football is the same way. It's just about being in the zone, in any sport, be it football, basketball or baseball.

It puts a lot more pressure on the type of players that we recruit. We have to get players who we feel are committed to get that degree before they leave. But we know that in our sport the trend is two years max before trying it as a professional. It just needs to keep being tweaked every year. The system now is really going to penalize baseball, basketball and football, and that's not fair to those programs.

We don't get a lot of kids who come here just to play hockey. They come here for the whole deal, to play football and baseball, too. We've got to be multiple-sport athletes. This year, we have a good group of kids. For 20 years, that hasn't been the case. We haven't been one of the top teams.

Basketball is a great sport. Baseball is a religion, and I truly believe that. Ask 10 people what was the first basketball game they went to and whom did they go with, then ask them what was the first baseball game and whom they went with, and there's a good chance that all 10 will remember the baseball and none of them will remember the basketball — or the football or the hockey.
