Clearly, results such as the ones we reported today are unsustainable. While there are many factors that impacted our results during 2002, including a sluggish economy, high fuel prices, lingering concerns over terrorism and the possibility of a war in the Middle East, the core issue for our company remains a cost structure that is out of step with the revenue environment facing domestic airlines.

We believe this kind of data is important in a consumer's selection of transportation. Basing purchase decisions solely on fuel economy or vehicle size does not get to the heart of the energy usage issue.

Fundamentally, we see a positive correlation between gas prices and sales of vehicles. We're certainly seeing fuel economy becoming a more important issue with consumers as we continue to see gas prices rise.

Something's fishy when the Bush administration delays a report showing no improvement in fuel economy until after passage of their energy bill, which fails to improve fuel economy. It's disturbing that despite high gas prices, an oil war and growing concern about global warming pollution, most automakers are failing to improve fuel economy.

We did and still see fuel economy as being important, which is why we're putting out a large number of vehicles with fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines next year.

Iraq policy cannot be seen as a partisan issue. The costs to our country have been far too great. No part of our nation remains untouched by this war. The military, the economy, social programs, and most important, our families and communities have all suffered because of this war.
