Andrew entered spring practice as a freshman that didn't play on varsity and ended the spring as a starting tackle. He is a hard worker and gives great effort during practice. He has a chance to be one of our best players.

We always say the spring game is mostly fun because you've been working hard and now you get to compete. Any time you keep score, you'd like to win. It's probably a little more impact than a normal spring practice. But they (the players) all know we've got 29 practices ahead of us before we line up for real against Northern Illinois.

It was great to finally get a chance to get back out there and interact with the players in a practice setting. You could already see improvement in some of the guys from winter conditioning, and we want to continue to build on that progress in spring ball.

I feel like Pete Carroll fits me best. He knows how to handle me. He knows what to say. I came out for spring practice and saw what was happening during the spring, and it was like, that's who I want to play for.

Michael, just like any other student at WSU, utilized procedures in place and is currently ready to enroll for spring semester. It was like starting over. I had to prove myself again. It was an adjustment. I didn't know coach (Marcus) Knott. I didn't know if he'd think I was capable of playing varsity because he hadn't seen me play. We're not where we need to be but we're moving forward. I told these guys (the linemen), give me a couple of seconds and our group will get open. I think they're starting to understand what they're supposed to do. There have been maybe one or two mental errors by the first group in practice. That's a long way from us not even being able to get a ball off in practice last spring.

Obviously, from our standpoint we feel the spring will be a chance for somebody to show themselves. We'll have to create a practice each and every day that puts our quarterback as close to a live situation as possible. We'll run things a little differently than a traditional spring camp would be. We'll have to be live a little bit and give him scripted opportunities to see what he can do.

If a player knows he has a chance to play, the way he invests in practice is much different. He's invested at a higher level and I think that's great for team practice. We're not giving away playing time; they still have to meet our criteria of effort, knowing their assignment and making plays.

That was our first meeting, and I probably didn't do as well as I could during winter workouts, 6 a. If he doesn't see all the effort he wants, we'll stop practice at any time and do up-downs. In one of our last practices, we weren't going hard enough. So we ended up doing up-downs for the rest of practice, which was good because it was what we needed to do.
