I have had to learn to stop talking and start listening. Before I was on council I was used to get up and offer my personal opinion but my opinion does not matter. I also enjoy working with the people on council. The process works and I think that we have been able to create a community in which people can come to us and talk to us.

I can see the benefits of going to a sort of mixed system - where a majority or almost a majority of council is at large, but it is easier for people to start the process of running for council if they only have to run in their ward, and they can handle it all by just walking around and talking to their neighbors and knocking on doors. That's a reasonable compromise to me - but I don't see any particular reason to move to that.

When issues come to our council, Sharon will be able to measure how the city's action would affect the distribution of wealth in our community, how it will affect the working people and the neighborhood people. We need more of that on the council.

I don't think they present things the way Dale did. Dale had a way of cutting through all the stuff. He wouldn't tell them something until he had all the facts. It wouldn't be just his opinion. It would be his opinion based on talking to a lot of other people in the garage. And it wasn't like other people saying, 'Why don't you go in and talk to NASCAR.' Dale took it on himself to do that.

We are so very pleased that the Ad Council agreed to this campaign. Ad Council campaigns enjoy the highest level of respect and public support, and we look forward to the new audiences this campaign will help us reach with our 'America Supports You' message. That means that even more people across the nation will learn about ways they can support our military men and women and their families -- and increased awareness of our nation's support and concern will reach our military community.

In my opinion, the next council member should be Fran Black Holland. She had the next-highest votes. She worked hard in her campaign. She deserves it. He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. The voters have chosen. How can the Kannapolis City Council deny her?

The council is claiming there is a groundswell of public opinion but truly I have not run across one person who has said that's a good idea. Until the actual merger agreement has been signed we do not understand any legal reason why the council could not slow down. What's the hurry?

I don't know what people are talking about. They should not confuse a difference of opinion that we have as artists to for a brewing rivalry. Naturally as artists we differ in opinion so I don't know what people are talking about.

We are looking for a strong resolution for the council that will reflect the unified opinion about the seriousness of this matter and the importance of everybody co-operating.

Roughly speaking, any man with energy and enthusiasm ought to be able to bring at least a dozen others round to his opinion in the course of a year no matter how absurd that opinion might be. We see every day in politics, in business, in social life, large masses of people brought to embrace the most revolutionary ideas, sometimes within a few days. It is all a question of getting hold of them in the right way and working on their weak points.

My own personal opinion is that the way it is structured today is largely the way it probably makes best sense. Ultimately it's a City Council decision, but it has to be made in the context of what's the purpose of the hotel tax.

From the first day I've been here, and it's true with everyone, you get linked to your past. But when people ask your opinion of someone that you haven't seen perform for a long period of time, no matter who it is, your opinion has no value.

We need to ask the residents what they are in need of and fill that need. For too long the residents have not had a say in their city's development. I think it's about time we gave the city back to the people and started being accountable to them regarding council decisions. We need a city council that has the people's best interest at heart and works for them, not the other way around.

I will continue working part time for the bank but I want to learn more about council and the way the city works.

The people on Council are talking, and that's a good thing and there are people behind the scenes talking with Council members and that is a good thing.
