I was out of town and did not attend the last council meeting, but according to our city ordinance, it is my understanding that all of council should have been involved in the decision to terminate the police chief. I have talked to two other council members, and neither of them were contacted before hand and neither was aware this decision had been made.

I have had to learn to stop talking and start listening. Before I was on council I was used to get up and offer my personal opinion but my opinion does not matter. I also enjoy working with the people on council. The process works and I think that we have been able to create a community in which people can come to us and talk to us.

Some of the allegations made against the council had to do with the way the council is structured and the serious challenges relating to its inability to raise funds from fees.

If this action is not sufficient, it will be obvious, and we will respond appropriately, ... The public has the right to know what the City Council is talking about so they can have input and observe ... decision making. That's the purpose of the open meetings law.

[Then the variables come into play, most importantly] how much money is available, ultimately, for the producer and the artist, ... It makes so much sense, because every tour is different, every artist is different, everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, but ultimately what this [process] does is it ensures to the greatest extent possible that in each given territory, city, country, that the artist is playing in the right scenario.

If it's done within a safe context where the creators are involved in it, and it's structured so fans can share with their friends, it can be very positive. Ultimately fans become brand ambassadors for the show.

The procedure is that the committee makes its recommendation to the City Council and, of course, the City Council has the final authority on this.

The main purpose of these hearings is to get an idea on where the budget missed the boat with the community. No budget will ever please everybody. The City Council tries to address the concerns they hear about most. Sometimes, if the city does not get any strong message from these hearings, no changes are made.

The council wants to thank and praise these men for their courageous actions, ... This story makes it apparent that this crew has a remarkable sense of teamwork and the personal integrity to risk their own safety for one another and the community.

It has taken a lot of time, so it makes sense that people thought it's not going to happen, and let's use the money for another worthwhile need. Do I agree with their decision? Of course not. The decision the Senate made certainly does not help us.

We get the sense that this was really a personal decision made by Mr. Nelson and that he was not pushed out by the company.

For some reason, people seem to forget they spend more on an average hotel stay than they do on their airline fare to get there. It just makes more sense to be invested in a hotel rewards program.

In my opinion, the next council member should be Fran Black Holland. She had the next-highest votes. She worked hard in her campaign. She deserves it. The voters have chosen. How can the Kannapolis City Council deny her?

It was in the city's interest to get rid of this blight and bring a quality hotel, parking deck and convention facility to the square, and that's why it's worth the investment to do that. That's why the City Council voted in favor of this,
