I'm very satisfied. It was a tremendous season. I have no regrets. I don't want anything that happened in the Tournament of Champions to overshadow the fact we won three straight state championships.

I think Oklahoma State has a great team, and they've had a great run. (The Big 12 championships) have always been a tough tournament, and a lot of the national champions come out of this tournament. I don't think this year will be any different.

This is the biggest tournament of the season outside of the regional and state championships. All of the top players are going to be there, and it should be a good preview of the state tournament.

Anything can happen at the state tournament and we've known that since we began in November. One of the reasons we prepare so intensely all season long is to expect the unexpected. We have some momentum going into the state championships. However, we know the power of our opponents and we will need to be on top of our game.

All three are four-time state champions. I don't think that's ever happened before. Most seasons, there is one, maybe two, four-timers; hardly ever is there three in one season. We couldn't single one out over the other two.

It's a tremendous accomplishment for this group of kids. To be co-champions with certainly one of the top five, six teams in the state (Valparaiso), I'm extremely proud of them. They have accomplished as much during the regular season as any team I've had.

I didn't know we had it, quite frankly. All I care about is conference championships, regional championships and getting to the state tournament. The first I heard of it was when I read the paper a couple days ago.

I think as a coaching staff, we worked our tails off this year. We wanted to make sure we didn't have another 7-15 season for these kids. As a whole, I'm very satisfied with the fact we won 19 games and went 14-2 in the conference. A coach is never 100 percent satisfied, but I feel good about the season.

It's been tremendous. We're making progress. We're way ahead of our game plan. Although I'm not satisfied with the season, I am satisfied with the way things are progressing.

Dereck Whittenburg

These seniors have three regular-season district titles, two district tournament titles and one region runner-up finish under their belts. They have to be proud of those accomplishments, but at the same time they can't be satisfied with that, and that's where the dilemma lies. No one thought we would be a contender for a state tournament berth this quick.

Right now, it's disappointing. Hopefully, when you look back on it -- we were conference champions, district champions, Farmington Invitational champions and Christmas tournament champions -- it was a good year. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness.

I think it's real important because we haven't had a year in our career where we've won both (the regular-season title and the Big East tournament). We've always won one or the other. So I think that's something that we've talked about also as being part of being apart of our legacy to be able to say that we won both regular season and tournament championships.

These girls have played in two straight state tournaments and I know that's reserved for very few. We fell just short of the triple crown. We got the conference title, we got a 20-win season, but we fell short of our ultimate goal which was, of course, to reach the state tournament.

We've been in the title hunt before, but last season we just happened to finish it off. Our attitudes as coaches and as a team haven't changed since 2002. We're still the national champions until Aug. 27, and then we become the defending national champions. And hopefully if we play well throughout the course of the season, we'll get a chance to play in Florence on national TV once again.
