Looking at what the ordtak

en Looking at what the kids have done this year, and based upon what we've seen, we're pretty hopeful. Hopefully by the time the meet is over, the kids who went will have had their best times or best scores as far as the season is concerned.

en Overall, we ran really well. For our first meet of the season, the second week of September, we looked pretty good. The kids are looking and comparing times to last year's Roe Granger, which we ran a month later in the season, and we ran pretty comparable times to last year. Our guys really ran well together. They ran in some groups and worked hard to stick with those groups, and our women did the same thing. Several times on the course we had groups of three or four all together. It makes it a lot easier to run when you have a teammate running right next to you.

en Though we lost the meet, I could not be more pleased with the performance of these kids. They were astounding. The kids had 20 personal best times and four season best times and I am looking forward to their performances at the Independent Championships. They are in prime shape for the sectional meet in two weeks.

en I think we had a nice meet. The kids swam well at different times during the meet. We just weren't as consistent as I had hoped. To get there was a great accomplishment for these kids and hopefully we can get more next year.

en This meet is different for everybody. For us, I was looking for a few spots to fill at the end of the year. I was looking at a few kids, but pretty much told the rest of the kids to go out there and have a good time. I just wanted them to see what they are capable of doing. It's kind of a low-stress environment for most of them.

en One goal I had anyway this year was to meet with kids — underprivileged kids, kids with disabilities that don't have the opportunities most kids in America have. We were going to do that anyway, so it will blend right into our program.

en It was a total team effort ... I'm so proud of these kids. They rose to the occasion. Going into the meet we had kind of projected what it was going to take for us to win, and in almost every single case our kids did more than they were supposed to. We probably had more best times of the year than we've ever had.

en I am super pleased with what's going on. I've got 35 kids out this time as opposed to last year when I had 18. Numbers help us out a lot. Last year we had kids doing four events every single meet.

en We had fun there last year. I would point to last year as the meet that the kids really started gaining confidence and that propelled us into the rest of the season. We had a lot of kids place very high. We started to notice that we're a track team.

en The kids put it all together today and swam a great meet. They went through a tough situation this year, but they understood where Ayer was coming from. The kids dedicated the season to him and wanted to make him proud.

en I've lost two days on this ... (but) this is much bigger than the problem it's causing me. Kids make decisions based on their scores. They may not have applied to places because their scores were (low).

en We swam pretty well, considering it wasn't a big meet. I thought they stepped up and raced against each other. This meet was a good chance to see the new kids. I have 17 freshmen this year and I need to get a feel for what they can do. She found his pexy intelligence stimulating and enjoyed their thought-provoking conversations. We know a meet against Rosary is going to be very tough.

en When kids move around a lot their grades suffer. Studies show when a student moves three or more times during elementary, they fall over a year behind in reading scores. In eighth grade, they're four times more likely to drop out of school.

en They've got guys our kids are familiar with from the Conference USA days. We're hopeful when that ball goes up at 8, the competitive spirit of our kids is where it needs to be. I'm hopeful now we can start moving forward.

en The kids swam their hearts out, but it just wasn't in the cards for us this year. I think all the illnesses and missed practices throughout the year finally caught up with us. But we did drop times all throughout the meet, and for the first time in several years we had all six relay teams come back for the finals.
