We've seen enrollment continue at a steady pace, faster than what we saw before the late December surge.

More than 60 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have signed up to receive prescription drug coverage from Medicare, and at significant savings from what they had been paying for their drugs. In the past month alone, about 380,000 Americans signed up each week. Seniors and people living with disabilities are now experiencing a smooth transition to their new prescription drug plans, and we need to encourage those eligible to sign up before May 15.

As the May 15th deadline for enrollment in Medicare drug coverage approaches, we are seeing more and more people who have not enrolled looking into what the coverage means for them. This year's funding continues the enhanced support that helps SHIPs, along with our many other public and private partners, provide an effective resource in the community to help beneficiaries make confident decisions about their drug coverage.

Aside from just some minor delays, it was a really good opening. (Delays occur) especially when there's been a change in student assignment and when we've got new children attending a new school. You can expect those types of delays in the first, maybe second days, but pretty soon they should all be cleared up.

The additional time is primarily attributable to a decrease in the rate of enrollment which began in December and continued through January as well as delays in initiating several additional clinical sites for the study.

The biggest surprise to us this year was the late-season surge in the week before Christmas. This occurred at a time when we usually see a pronounced drop-off in purchases. Instead, we saw a 57 percent growth surge driven by people buying online and picking up in stores as well as the commitment by online merchants to deliver in time.

We are telling Medicaid individuals to wait and see which plan they are enrolled in. Most of the plans will match people's needs. There may be a situation where a specific drug is not being covered or a pharmacy is not on their list, but for those people changes can be made.

The current economic environment has impacted front-store sales, particularly high-margin seasonal and general merchandise categories, ... While our pharmacy business remains healthy and vibrant in the vast majority of our markets, there are pockets of the country where we are experiencing a slower growth rate in pharmacy.
