Oil prices have backed ordtak

en Oil prices have backed over $22 here. And I kind of think that this is what is probably going to give a bumpy ride for the next several week to the bond market.

en Energy prices are the reason for this. The crisis in the Middle East is obviously going to keep the price of energy at a strong level and that means this market is going to now be fearful of inflation exploding. We could be in for a further bumpy ride.

en The surge in bond prices was a relief for the market after their tumble last week kept pulling down the Nikkei average.

en We've got more ongoing focus on the bond yields. We've been in lockstep with it all week, and today is no different. There aren't any market-moving items due today, so we'll look at energy prices today for something else to drive the market.

en House prices swamp Fed concerns in the mortgage- and asset-backed market. We see many more opportunities in a volatile market like this than in a placid market.

en I've backed off cliffs all of my career. The best things I've done I've backed into. I never understood what I was getting into, I never started out to be a political cartoonist. There wasn't this kind of cartoonist when I started. en European leaders are pressing Iran to step back their 'saber rattling' threats over nuclear developments. This situation was priced in the market last week -- and as traders returned back to work and focused on the current fundamental supply situation -- prices backed down off the highs.

en The core number (which excludes the volatile food and energy sectors) is expected to (gain) 0.2 percent, which would be good and I think that would give the market a further sign of relief and could give the bond market a boost.

en The fluctuations in the bond market are all dollar-related. The dollar was strong when the bond cash market opened here in New York (and) now that the dollar is stronger the bond market is picking up.
