We're not skating, we're not hitting, we're not doing anything. When we had the lead, we never really went after them. We sat back and waited for the other team to score. It's been like that most of the year.

Once you have a lead, anything can still happen. We were still hitting out there, still skating. I think we took too many penalties, and that's something we have to work on, but it was nice to see us get back to form.

I've been seeing the ball real well and they threw a lot of fastballs so I just sat back and waited. Hitting in the middle of the lineup has been great for me and hitting a double now and then helped keep the team going.

(In the third) we just kind of tried to protect the lead and sat back too much. We didn't create anything and they were skating really well.

We're a team that does better when we're in a have-to situation where we have to score. I'd almost think this team would be better coming from behind than having a lead and trying to hold it. But when (Prospect) came back and tied it up, we came back and responded.

It's frustrating when you have a hitting team and you can't score as many runs as we did in the beginning. There's been a lot of changes, a lot of new guys [since last year]. Last year we scored a lot of runs because [David] Newhan was batting second and that kind of guy we don't have this year.

Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

They say the worst lead in hockey is a two-goal lead going into the third period. You can't sit back and let them keep coming at you. I thought we did a good job of skating and continuing to play in that third period.

It's always fantastic to be in first place. Our opening-round score is better than it was last year, but a 19-stroke lead is not insurmountable. I feel as a team we have not played to our capacity. We hope to be able to come out, play well and increase our lead ... continue to improve to remain in first place.

We're always preaching score early and score often. The girls seem to relax when we can get out on top. We've been hitting well and in timely situations and that's something we didn't do that well last year.

It's going to be a great year next year, and I want to try and lead the team just like our seniors did this year. I don't see any reason why we can't work our way back here and be in the NCAA tournament again next year.

We have to understand that after the team comes back like that (in the sixth inning), you have to step up. You can't just give the momentum back to UCF. We scored three runs and then we gave (the lead) right back to them. We have to keep the momentum and see if we can score some runs after that.

We knew they were a good skating team. We came out trying to force their hand with some hitting and our guys got caught up in that a little bit too much. We lost sight of the puck and they're a very good team. They find their open players very well.

We'll be skating all over town to attract attention to the tournament. We'll be downtown skating to breakfast at Grill. Skating over to Fourth Avenue. Skating around in Reid Park.

I have an idea of why his swing is so good. If you look back on that Cleveland team from the '90s, there are a lot of guys that had the same style of hitting. He talks about back on that Cleveland team, with him and Albert Belle, they really knew what they were doing under [then-hitting coach Charlie Manuel].
