There's big fear. People are selling because they don't know what's going to happen. The news out of the BBC this morning that Iraq is getting ready for chemical warfare is a big part of it.

It seems to be some natural selling, an extension of last week ... Terrorist activity over the weekend in Turkey led to selling in Japan and selling here; the earnings this morning were mixed, and you have no staggering economic news until Thursday, so people are taking some money off the table right now. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe.

Because you're able to see a spectral fingerprint of a chemical, you could use this technology to uniquely identify chemicals that would be associated with chemical warfare agents.

Once again (KESQ) News Channel 3 in the Morning at 6 a.m. won the morning news race, with twice as many people watching compared to any competing news show, with a 4 rating, 24 share, compared to a 2/11 for KMIR and a 2/12 for KPSP (CBS2).

The Iraq news definitely was a positive. This morning, people were fearful of the ISM data, which came mostly in line. So stocks tracked higher on these developments.

A lot of the reason for the rally is that people think that everything's on the table. You saw a knee-jerk reaction this morning, with people selling on an initial reaction to the news, Europe being down so much and some weak earnings, like Kraft.

[It sure had. Over on Fox News Channel (3/23/03), the headline banners were already rolling:] HUGE CHEMICAL WEAPONS FACTORY FOUND IN SO IRAQ.... REPORTS: 30 IRAQIS SURRENDER AT CHEM WEAPONS PLANT.... COAL TROOPS HOLDING IRAQI IN CHARGE OF CHEM WEAPONS. ... U.S. Troops Capture First Chemical Plant.

The number one reason is fear. It's the fear of being found HIV-positive and the fear of dying. If you don't go to the doctor, you don't get the bad news. People living with the virus are not respected and are often feared. There's also the fear of treatment. They've heard some of the horror stories.

And so I want to thank you all for coming. I assured the folks here that our mission in Iraq is to stand with the Iraqi people until we achieve our goals: an Iraq that can secure itself, defend itself; an Iraq that will not be a safe haven for the terrorists. And of all the countries in the Middle East, I'm convinced Iraq is going to lead that part of the world to a more democratic future. The Iraqi people are brave and courageous and smart people.
