So why is this a concern for the airport director?

en The increase in local funds is comparable to last year, so it's consistent. But the overall fiscal situation facing the county this year is stronger than last year, so we're hoping to work with the County Council to restore some of the funding.

en In Spain the planning process takes five or six years but in Germany 15 or 20 years, ... Planning laws must be streamlined.

en Developers are trying to live with the county requirements but sometimes it takes three to four years to get a development planned and started in the growth area. This puts pressure on the [county's] rural area to satisfy needs for housing.

en We have nothing (in Randolph County) to prevent their construction. The area planning commission is the key. We've tried to get an ordinance passed. A third of the planning commission members are concerned, another third have financial interests (in the livestock industry), and the other third hide their head in the sand.

en You could not invent a more productive place for the city to place its attention. And a conference center may be the trigger that can allow for the infrastructure at the airport to (improve) so that rates can find themselves going higher. We're in the process of examining that right now.

en Bay County voters rejected the airport proposal in a 2004 nonbinding referendum, but that hasn't stopped St. Joe or the state from pursuing this boondoggle. This is neither the time nor the place to build a destructive new airport as corporate welfare. We already have an underutilized airport that can serve the region well into the future when we will know much more about the troubled aviation industry, the realistic prospects for another airport, and the true environmental and financial cost.

en I have some significant experience in general plan revisions. I served six years on the Stanislaus County Planning Commission. First, we need to seek out a person we have been advertising for to oversee the Planning and Building departments.

en I don't think you're getting the totality of the situation. There is a very lengthy process that varies from county to county.
