Just as DNA chips revolutionized genome analysis, we hope to make cell chips (self-assembled arrays of cells on a thumbnail-sized chip) using our DNA-based cell adhesion strategy. Cell chips could be used as biosensors for detecting the presence of pathogens, or for drug screening, just to name of a few of the many possibilities.

Cell is an architecture for a family of chips, including Cell Broadband, that can easily process massive amounts of data. At this point we don't know all of the applications for Cell, and we want people to work with us to find additional uses.

Analog Devices makes digital chips that go into cell phones, and there's nothing more hot than that at the moment - you've got cellular phones, which, obviously the world wants to own, plus you've got the chips that go into these phones. These are really the places to be right now.

In most designs, the cells are stacked so that the anode of one is wired to the cathode of the next cell, which gives you a series connection. But with our nano fuel cell design, you basically have all the cells sharing the same air and fuel reservoirs, which are outside the fuel cell array. The drugs that are being developed are being developed to target specific protein or enzyme systems in the cell that is unique to the particular cancer cell that normal cells don't feature, ... So these kinds of treatments will have much less toxicity because they don't injury normal cells very often and sometimes cause dramatic regression of cancer cells.
