If you have a stake in the community, it probably does rub off on your kids. They're going to think there's something worthwhile to finishing school.

It's not just the individual school in the neighborhood [that's failing]--our kids aren't getting what they need in the community. When [they were in the local public school], there were security issues, overcrowding, lots of other stuff going on. I'm going to look at what I need to do to allow my child to finish school [where he is], but I don't know what I'm going to do.

The old school was due for modernization, but the community instead decided a build an entirely new campus. Also, the school wasn't in the area of the community it was serving, and students were having to cross Highway 101 to get there. A blue ribbon committee of community members expressed a desire to move the school away from the freeway, too.

I think Kimberly is a growing community. It is a community that values athletics. It's a one-horse town. There's no North-West rivalry, there's no three schools in the district. The kids in middle school know they are going to Kimberly High School. And that goes a long way in building loyalty and building a program.

This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

We've got to stand up and put it (a bond issue) on the ballot... I've got to pay taxes like everybody else, but it will benefit us all, not just kids, the whole community. A school tells me what the community is like,

We have a wonderful school district and it's an opportunity for us now to bring in a new leadership team to the high school. And as a community, I think it's important that we do that ... and work in the best interest of our kids.

They also started girls' volley ball and had 44 girls sign up to play the sport with all finishing the season. That number decreased to 28 when the school added a dance team. Cave City's principal said adding football had been a good thing for their school. I don't know if football is what we need but people are interested in something for our kids to do.

There are a lot of uneducated youth in our community. We plan to address the issues with our school. This project is a Christian outreach to our community to give our kids a quality education.

That's one of the hard parts of living in a smaller community. You see these people every day and your kids go to school with their kids and you go to church with them. It's just kind of tough.

It's not a new concept, but it's brand new for this program. It's brought kids back into school that we couldn't get into school. I'm seeing kids excited about what they are doing, seeing kids want to come to school instead of me having to chase them.

This is another step our School Board takes along with our community to keep our kids safe on one of the bigger nights of their high school career. If this keeps even one student from being killed that night, the inconvenience will have paid off.

Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. The YMCA's role in any community is to serve the youth of the community, ... When the Charter School, with their athletic program, didn't have the facilities, obviously we stepped up to the plate to offer this facility to those kids.

Some kids are put in shelters and there are a number of reasons. Kids run away from home and there are other problems in the community that have an impact on attendance. They are breaking state law by not coming to school.

Madison Township has a large geographical area, and the people there, are mostly farmers, mostly rural community. For that reason, we don't have high population numbers. Our school is the smallest; still, those kids deserve to have their own school.
