There were a lot ordtak

There were a lot of hitters who haven't been hitting much lately who finally contributed at the plate. If we can keep that going, we should be all right for the next couple of weeks. That's two games in a row where we sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning. We need to get to where we're consistent, but I can't complain. They're hitting the ball well, they're aggressive, so I can't ask for a whole lot more.

I never thought I could do this. Who knew I could do this? Not me. I just go after the hitters and try to learn something every day. I haven't been fancy these last couple of weeks. Throwing just fastballs.

We had trouble hitting early in the game as their pitcher kept our hitters off balance. Our hitting finally came around in the last inning.

We have to be concerned with ourselves. We have to take care of what we have to take care of. We haven't played awful. But we haven't had everything over the last couple weeks, where we're pitching well and hitting well at the same time. They've kind of alternated a little bit.

Even though I haven't been doing so well this year, I like batting in the eighth spot. I was getting a little frustrated in the first couple weeks, because I know what I'm capable of doing at the plate. I came up as a productive hitter.

We haven?t hit the ball real well all year, and finally we?re starting to come around on that. We worked hard on that in the last week or two. We?re swinging at pitches that we could hit. We got more selective at the plate and it really paid off for us. Hitting strikes, driving the ball well.

Really the last couple of times out we've really done a much better job of pitch selection with our hitting. We are hitting pitches we can hit hard instead of wasting at bats on stuff that is crappy. We've really looked very disciplined at the plate mentally and the results are you are going to hit the ball harder.

I was encouraged by our hitting and pitching today. We had a couple of poor defensive mistakes, but we put the ball in play and pitched well. We just had a couple of defensive lapses, which may not have been the reason we lost, but certainly contributed.

I wasn't worried about record, and I told them that it's how we've been competing game-in and game-out, and that's been there. We haven't made clutch hits. We haven't made clutch pitches, but that happens. Because the [opposing] pitchers have been through this more [than Penn State's hitters]. Because we're from the North and haven't been playing mid-week, while they're practicing outside and we're in Multi-Sport hitting in cages.

The hitters remarked that it was pretty nasty. They knew it was coming, but had a hard time hitting it. He throws it over the plate. It was a very positive day for the things we wanted him to do. In Spring Training, he'll be encouraged to throw it during a game.

It was nice to see a couple of our players come alive at the plate. We did a good job of hitting overall.

Obviously, the Busch series has gotten so competitive that we pretty much head into each weekend with a top-10 finish in mind, and things have seem to finally have come together for us in the last couple months, especially the last couple of weeks.

We finally came out and put somebody away. We've been winning but they've been close game. We've talking about being more aggressive at the plate and the offense came around like it should. We haven't done that in a while.

At this point in camp, our production has been erratic at best. I just think we have a lot of ground we have to cover, and we only have a couple of weeks to go. I haven't seen a lot of things I was hoping to see out of this group. I was hoping to see a step up and have a big improvement, but the improvements we've had have been marginal, and in a couple of cases I won't say that guys have regressed, but they haven't progressed at all. Right now, I'm not real thrilled.
