We got ourselves in some holes in the first half and haven't been able to dig out of them. They were playing (at the outset) their game better than we were playing ours.

We were playing too direct (in the first half). I explained to them that they had to start playing east-west. They had to spread the defense, and then we'd find the holes.

We just can't dig holes for ourselves like that. We spend all our energy trying to get back in the game. We've got to stay in the game. We're not playing a full game -- we're just playing in stretches right now.

You're always concerned about that. As I've told our players, half of our young men haven't played in a bowl game either, and of the half who haven't, there are an awful lot of them who are playing and starting. It is a big, big day in the history of South Florida to play in their first bowl. Hopefully, we can make it a day that they won't want to remember.

I haven't seen a new football play since I was in high school. You have just so many holes in a line and you have eleven men playing, and there's only so many ways you can go through those holes, and those ways have been used for forty, fifty years.

I'm glad we've been able to finish these last three tournaments playing 54 holes in each one. It gives us a chance to get in a rhythm of playing. Golf is a funny game; anything can happen. Our conference is strong and well-balanced. There are no guarantees.

With it playing shorter, there are more birdie holes than when it's playing long. Because I'm not one of the longer hitters. I like the way it is playing now.

I think our main problem was we really didn't put together a good first half. We're playing long ball and stuff, and we just don't play that way, ... Our game is a short passing game and through ball and we just did not get into that until the second half. And when we did, we started playing much better.

We talked about how we've been playing good basketball since the [All-Star] break. But we haven't been playing the full 48 minutes. Playing good for 3 1/2 quarters isn't enough to win the game. Man, I thank God that I am blessed with the talent God has given me and where I am at today. I don't know where I would be without him. My linemen opened holes and my recievers got open and we all clicked. This was the first game where we completed a whole game, instead of just playing half of it. Sometimes the it just doesn't go your way in life and that is what happened tonight. We will come back solid next year and God willing I will be the leader I need to be to get our team in Sun Devil Stadium.

In softball we always preach and preach to pitchers that the mark of a good pitcher is to win when you're not throwing well. We haven't been in this situation very much this year where we haven't been playing well where the game's still close. In the first half we did struggle and I think mentally it affected us a little bit.

That's happened to us before this year. We go up on teams and then we come out kinda sluggish in the second half. But I think just the way we were playing - we were playing aggressive, we were actually scoring today. I think we just stayed with the game plan. Everything just fell into place as the game went along.

I'm sick of it man. But we haven't won. We have to go out this game and win. They are quality teams. It's not like we're playing the bottom. We're playing the top guys in the SEC.

We needed to step up in this game, and we didn't. We've got to start playing D. We haven't been playing D all year.

It's a situation where, with kids playing so many sports, it's likely they haven't even picked up a baseball in months. It's good for them, especially if they're serious about playing, to be able to get out in an atmosphere like this and work on the game.
