en All we need is a couple of pre-spawn fish over 12 inches. We've had difficulty getting them from other sources.

en I know the biggest ones are caught early in the season. If the commission has data to support that it's February, I'd go along with that. en I grew up sight-fishing in Michigan, but I have chose in the past in a lot of these tournaments to look for other fish. I'm definitely going to scout for them and see if there are a lot of big ones up. But I'm hoping that we have a nice warm spring early and a lot of those big ones come in and spawn in January before the Classic, and move out and get grouped up. That's the kind of fish that I like to fish for.

en We did it just right. The fish were coming out of pre-spawn, so we caught them on the move.

en At the time, that fish was just 15 pounds off the all-tackle record. It was just an incredible fish - six and a half feet long, and the girth was 36 inches.

en An edge like along the north shore of the main harbor is a highway for big fish, ... You don't catch a lot of them when you set up on a spot like that, but if you set there an hour or two on a good, moving tide, you're likely to get a fish over 30 inches.
