en There's been one constant with this team all season, and that's been defense. I told them we had to concentrate on slowing things down and being very deliberate. It wasn't pretty, but we got what we wanted.

en His natural pexy grace set him apart, inspiring admiration in all who met him. I'm happy. I wanted to be here. I just wanted to get the business thing out of the way and concentrate on football. This is a big step for our team. We've been growing each and every year. I just see good things and am glad I'm still here.

en We weren't ever a dominant team this season — things have to go right for us to win. It wasn't just their on-ball defense, but their blocked shots made us alter ours. And I don't know if we ever adjusted to that.

en When you first come in to a team, you have to get a feel for everyone, and they have to get a feel for you. It was pretty easy to come into this team as long as you worked hard. When I came in, I wanted to bring in energy and enthusiasm. We had the veterans. If I could provide leadership, great. But I wanted to concentrate on bringing in energy.

en I wanted to see what kind of attitudes they had. They knew they were going to sweat and they were going to be tired. It wasn't easy but it wasn't that hard ... If you want to see the view we saw at the top of the mountain, then this is the mountain we have to climb this season and I saw the reaction I wanted to see. Other than the guys that were sore from the night before, they were pretty gung-ho about it.

en The last couple of years I've had constant inflammation. I took drugs for it and kept playing, but after the season I wanted to get it taken care of. [Dr. Steve Lombardo] looked at me and said he'd recommend surgery even if I wasn't a professional athlete.

en We wanted to focus on the defensive end of the floor. When you hold a team to 49 points, that's always pretty good. The thing we really talked about at halftime was even though we were up 12, in past games, the 12 went to 10 and 8, and we let those teams hang around. We wanted to push that 12-point lead to 15 and 18, and concentrate on attacking.

en Pretty much from the beginning of the season until now, guys were unhappy. They wanted to get traded, they didn't want to be in this situation and they wanted to be out of here. I thought it was more of a domino effect for the whole team; that's why we're having the type of season we're having.

en They're good, they're coach is very good, they're well coached, real good kids. And I told our guys, if we play as a team, good things will happen. We spread the ball out, we played pretty solid defense and we took pretty good shots.

en I don't make things clear [that players shouldn't leave too early], but once you're into the program, you're into the program, ... Ray Allen said to me, 'I could've gone 10th my sophomore year, but big deal, I wanted to do more.' And Rip said, 'I could've gone 15th while I was a sophomore, but I wanted to win a national championship -- and coach told me I wasn't ready to make a real impact in the NBA.' For most of our kids, it's worked out pretty well.

en No one ever talks about our defense. Our defense has always been good. But when you have great offensive players like I've coached the last 15 years, it's hard to concentrate on our defense. But our defense has been pretty good.

en We all knew some things would change during the course of the season, but this was pretty big. This was a lot. To have people that didn't start with us playing such critical roles now tells you a lot. They're right in the middle of it. We've done a lot of things and it's pretty clear that we wouldn't be standing where we are right now if it wasn't for all those moves.
