The fuel price will stay stubbornly high throughout 2006. I don't see how you can not position yourself in diversified energy companies.

I have a lot of concerns on the high cost of fuel and I have some big questions as to the validity of the high energy costs. Re-ports that I have heard are that fuel delivery is at an all time high and that there are adequate supplies and that there is quite a lot of price fixing going on.

I'm sure people will use it. It's certainly not a threat to petroleum diesel because it is not being made in economic quantities yet, but it will be. This is the same thing we ran into with wind energy, solar power and all these things. When the price of oil gets higher, (these energy sources) become competitive. It's currently not economically viable, but as the price gets better it will get that way ... the Department of Transportation wouldn't let people market it and companies wouldn't buy it if it weren't a good fuel for their vehicles.

New York must also promote a diversified fuel supply for electric generation. We have had a de-facto policy of having natural gas as the only acceptable fuel source for twenty years. Excessive reliance on any one fuel leads to problems with price and supply security, as is now occurring with natural gas.

Contacts must be closer between the Ministry of Industry and Energy and oil companies to fix [fuel] price growth at 11%, as projected.

As energy prices stay high, there's savings to be had by looking at your energy infrastructure. Most companies haven't.

This is hurting companies that are heavy users of energy, such as airlines. The availability and price of fuel will have a big impact on the bottom line of the airline industry.

The bottom line is the high energy prices have created a huge cash position at many of these energy companies. They can either buy back their stock or do an acquisition and Occidental is doing both.

Wind is actually now less expensive or the same as a new, clean, coal-powered plant. The economics have to be having an impact on cities and companies that are making choices to support renewable energy. The price of coal tends to loosely follow the price of gas.
