That is an established business corridor. And with the high-income population growth in northern Mecklenburg County, they should have a large pool of small-business owners living in the surrounding market to draw from.

We are looking at internal growth opportunities, ... We're also looking externally at things that fit with our business and that would be complementary to our core business.

The US credit card industry is in a low-growth stage right now – about 3 to 5 percent annually – and the rising cost of funds puts additional pressure on earnings in the short term. Generally speaking, there is a certain business segment that absolutely follows population growth.

We look at the population, age and ethnicity, income, projected household income, business growth broken down into number of employees and industry and traffic. When we break ground, it?s with pinpoint precision that the client base will expand and the market share will leverage growth.

The future of these two companies is bright. There are growth opportunities not just here in the U.S. but internationally. The companies are not going away anytime soon, notwithstanding any near-term fluctuation in the stocks.

Less than 5 percent of the population is using banking services. The growth opportunities for mortgages, car loans, consumer loans, are huge.
