If they get on and score some runs, then everyone else seems to follow them. They have been starting for three years and now what is expected of them.

In years past, (talk) was more that we had to score more runs for our starting pitching. Now, it's more that we're going score some runs, can the starting pitching keep us in games?

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

We're getting real good pitching and we're starting to be able to execute and scrap a few runs out. We're finding ways to score runs, sometimes, when we really need them.

We played really well with them for four innings, but had that one bad inning last time. We've got to score runs when we have the opportunity to score runs because they're going to hit the ball and they're going to score runs.

Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

It's a good sign that we're starting to score runs in bunches.

We've gone through some times this year where we haven't had some guys produce a whole lot of runs. There's a reason we rank where we are, offensively. I know there weren't a lot of monster years put up, but it seems like this is a good baseball team, and we can score some runs.

Well, we don't really want to get into exactly how many runs we expect to score, but I think it's safe to say that our expectation is that we'll allow fewer runs than we did last year. There might be a chance that we score fewer runs, too. The key is differential.

But teams are getting better at it, people are starting to work out how to play it and I think you'll find that 180 runs will be a par score this season.

We have a very young starting rotation and I think it's important that they know they can lean on our offense to score some runs and take some pressure off them.

It's just one of of those things you have to program yourself to not worry about. It's no reason to jump on our starting pitchers. We just have to go out and score more runs.

Some days it's going to take the starting pitcher to come out and dominate, and you might win, 2-0. But for the most part, we're going to score runs. With a team like this, you don't panic.

We obviously need to get our offense going again, ... And beyond that, who knows how many wins you need (to win the wild card)? The thing that's critical for me is we need to be back to where it looks like we're going to score runs, where you just know you're going to score runs.
