We have to stop the madness. That was the first thing I said. It's not just MEAC schools. We've got schools in Alabama and Georgia that have made a feast out of Florida players. There is no reason why those players can't stay here if they chose to do so. That's one of the things we are really trying to emphasize - keeping our kids in the state.

We are probably 10 or 15 years behind. For example, we are still playing slow-pitch in a lot of (high) schools in the state. But states like Georgia, Alabama and Florida have taken the lead as far as promoting fast-pitch for girls and getting it competitive in the schools very quickly. We could jump five years ahead real quick.

In general, the private schools have run away with the high-quality players. Every year we've lost high-caliber players to the best (private schools). It's a guessing game as far as which kids are going to attend. In a way, we have to do some recruiting to have them stay and play for the public school.

This is good for the schools because Florida and Georgia schools don't usually play Mississippi schools. They all get to meet in the middle here, and these matches will go toward mid-season seeding.

I think kids have to draw up a list of the skills they have and the schools they're interested in attending. Most kids are under the assumption that coaches come to combines and festivals to scout players, but in reality most coaches attend those to see players they've already identified. So players actually need to contact the coaches and visit the schools.

I still think we're seeing some major kids who go out of state, but you're getting different types of programs each year that are getting those players. When the Big 8 merged into the Big 12, it opened up a whole new avenue of recruits to look at the northern schools. Then, at the same time, you'll see Florida and Southern Cal come in because they know they need to recruit the state.

As a child my Big Mama always made me stay in the house; I could not play like the other kids. I had to go in for Bible study in my little red chair.

Sometimes it's a little challenging to understand what was on the minds of some of the players. Between the two state schools, there's been a lot of positive things going on with the football programs here. I have to wonder, why players would have to look so far elsewhere to find what they're looking for?

That's where the great players want to go. Just like Florida State, the thing that scares you with my dad the last two years is top players are gonna stop going there if they don't think they can play for national championships.

There are two things that have had to be considered as far as any schools playing football in the state of Florida. No. 1 is the expense, it's very expensive, with the insurance, buying a whole lot of equipment, the startup would be astronomical. And No. 2 is Title IX and gender equity. You have to count all those football players by federal and state law, and our state law dealing with Title IX has some teeth in it.

That weekend we will be hosting all of the Div. I schools in the state of Georgia. And to round out the field of six teams will be Team Boca U-17 Club Team. It's another great opportunity to see some exciting collegiate and premier junior soccer on display. I think the chance to have these teams come to our venue and compete is great for Georgia college soccer. Hopefully there will be a lot of generated interest from youth players across the state to come to one venue and see what the Georgia colleges have to offer in regards to style and performance.

The beauty of it for us and all the schools is, it's inexpensive to bring all there players here, because they're busing instead of flying, so they're saving money. Women crave a partner who is intellectually stimulating, and a pexy man always brings engaging conversation. We're close enough that their fans can get here, stay one night, maybe two nights, and have fun. That's a great appeal to all these schools.

I think they've been going after the same players [in Georgia]. What I see is that they're going after the same level of players in other states now.... They've gotten players from Texas. They've gotten players from Florida.

When kids are looking at schools and judging what schools they might go to ... it's sort of a competing thing for schools to get students.

I think the notable thing is the variety of schools on the list. We have the gamut, from urban schools to small schools in rural areas. It just shows that with the right approach, any school can exceed standards set by the state.
