en This uncertainty about what Microsoft is going to do with the cash has been hanging over the stock for a couple of years. A buyback would be a signal that management is optimistic with the price of its own stock.

en We're not recommending purchase of it, but I do think that the worst is probably behind. I do think that there is probably a bounce due in the stock. It's Microsoft's turn at the plate, if you will. I think the actions really will start to play in their favor. I think a stock buyback program begins within the next six-to-eight weeks. I think that's one line of defense that the company has for the stock.

en Gillette has been off everyone's radar screen for a couple years. New management last year -- we saw (it) in the first-quarter numbers, finally seeing some benefit of that, ... Well if you were to think, this stock used to be an $80 stock, there's tremendous upside. Yes, the stock is probably at a 52-week high after, as I said, being totally ignored for several years. So I think what you're really seeing is the start of an uptrend.

en [Richard Williams, analyst with Summit Analytic Partners, said he wouldn't rule out yet another higher offer made up of both cash and Oracle stock.] If they were to throw stock in, they could go a lot higher, ... But the all-cash bid makes it more attractive because it's a so much lower risk than a cash-and-stock bid.

en You're not becoming richer as a result of the split. Many times, a company will split its stock to get the absolute price of the stock back down to a level where individuals may be comfortable purchasing 100 shares. But you know, [when] you split the price of the stock, you [simply] have twice as much stock at half the price.

en With revenue growth slowing, Ballmer has tried to squeeze more down to the bottom line to make the company more appealing to investors, ... Even the cuts that seem trivial have dampened morale. Just whisper the word 'towels' to any Microsoft employee, and eyes roll. Last year, Microsoft stopped providing a towel service for workers who used company locker rooms after bike rides or workouts. Employees who helped the company build its huge cash stockpile were furious. And don't even mention stock options. Employees long counted on them to bolster their salaries. Microsoft minted thousands of employee millionaires as the stock climbed 61,000% from its 1986 public offering to its peak in 2001. Now shares are trading exactly were they were seven years ago. Microsoft has doubled its payroll in that time, adding more than 30,000 new employees, not including attrition. That means more than half of Microsoft's employees have received virtually no benefit from their stock holdings.

en They have a huge cash flow that finances a whole city of people, and yet where you can grow from there is actually fairly limited. Microsoft's stock price isn't going anywhere, and in that environment, politics that were background noise rise to the foreground.

en Lockheed now has an additional $1.7 billion of cash to deploy, and its use of it should be a key to the performance of the stock. We view the repurchase of stock as the best use of cash given its low valuation. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

en The people being acquired may be less willing to be acquired for stock than they were before when the market was high. The depressed stock prices cuts both ways. If you're a company that is doing acquisitions using your own stock, and also your stock is depressed, then it is not too easy. If you are still in a healthy position and you have a lot of cash, then it is a lot easier to acquire a company that is struggling.

en We are increasingly optimistic that outside pressure might encourage Pier 1's management and board to undertake a more aggressive turnaround effort. This could ignite a fundamental rebound and better stock price at Pier 1.

en Though a positive, we were disappointed frankly that the increase were not more given the weak stock price performance over the past year and the near 2% yield on the stock which may limit some pool of institutional investors that might look at the stock given [the] currently historically attractive valuation.

en Over the last six years, we have experienced the largest drop in price/earnings ratios in the history of the U.S. stock market, going back to 1871. 2006 has the potential to be a great year for stock investors.

en At current levels, the stock looks fully priced; in fact, the stock seems priced for perfection. While we still believe a takeout longer term is possible ... the stock at this price seems to anticipate most of that as well.

en Any company can double its stock price. We believe our stock price is still undervalued based on our oil and gas assets and the (Big Island) real estate still to be valued.

en I think the stock is a good value here, ... There is a lot of uncertainty, but from a valuation standpoint, this stock is as cheap as it's ever been and it has one of the best balance sheets in the business.
