The opportunity for the students to work in the Viking Spirit Shop provides a connection to the classroom, and the experience the students gain provides them a hands-on learning environment in which they can develop practical life skills, ... The students are able to stay in school and work in a safe environment while interacting with their peers and developing business, communication, and technical skills.

We are so excited about this. We space it out so that all of the students get to work on it. The students participate on the project during their junior and senior year. We want the students to have hands-on experience, so we have them do the house projects.

Back-to-work legislation is not an option that will work in the interests of students. If imposed, there will be absolutely no trust in the process since back-to-work legislation could impose not only an arbitrator, but even a contract. The fact that the students work with local not-for-profits means they have a real customer with a real need who will use what the students deliver. It helps make EPICS work as a design program.

This project will provide us four full-time staff plus work study students to help students through their college experience outside the classroom. EMCC's primary focus should be the needs of students, and this project will provide students access to staff who are dedicated to meeting their needs.

The real value of all of this work is that it is authentic. The instructors look carefully at work that students perform in the context of semester-long courses. There are no tests, there are no high stakes. Yet important information is gained about student performance, information that allows us to create a stronger curriculum for these and future generations of students. Who can ask for anything more?

One of the astonishing realizations that I never expected was the feeling that students could take away a great deal from notoriously difficult literature. 'The Waste Land' is the great example for me, because it's a work of such legendary difficulty, and again and again I have students come in and say they loved it, they dressed up as 'The Waste Land' for Halloween, they keep reading it. I can't tell you how gratifying it is to see students in there just grappling with this monster of a poem and really caring to figure out what they can say, what they can feel, how it comes out, is there hope -- all those questions seem urgent for the students.

We're basically removing all of the procedural barriers--such as late fees--and speeding the admission and enrollment process for qualified students so they can enroll for fall semester. Whatever students need to make this happen, we're going to take care of it. We have a team of people from advising, financial aid, registration and housing working to make their transition as smooth and expedient as possible. Ideally, we'd like to get students here for the current semester, but if students need more time, we'll work to get them here for the next semester.

It was great to see that so many students made time in their busy schedules and came out to support the cause. Every volunteer who participated this past Saturday helped make a change for the better in the Rochester community. Their time and their work were truly appreciated. Saturday was proof that students can do so much. They not only joined fellow Rochester students, but students and volunteers across the the nation in one simple mission - be the change that you wish to see in the world.

I don't really dwell on numbers. My philosophy is that you attract quality students that have good attitudes and work hard, . She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. .. Those students attract more students of the same kind and the numbers take care of themselves.

There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.
