The Commonwealth has provided significant resources through Growing Greener to support the formation of watershed groups and completion of various planning documents, such as river conservation plans. The need is to focus on implementing on-the-ground, high quality projects that benefit aquatic habitat at the ecosystem level. That is the missing link.

The San Pedro River watershed, an internationally recognized ecological treasure, is a much-valued resource for Arizona, the U.S. and Mexico. We hope to bring water quality improvements to this watershed, and will strive to protect Arizona's water resources for generations to come.

You will not only be taught how to fish, but you will also do aquatic studies and some aquatic research projects down at the lake. And that's a great benefit for us having Lake Raleigh close by because a lot kids at these schools never have a chance to get outdoors and see that part of it.

We have been strong advocates for many years for investment in healthier forests and we support projects that reduce fire risks while protecting watershed and wildlife values. Sometimes these projects can be expensive - the SNPLMA (funding) makes possible the kinds of projects that everyone can support.

In aquatic areas, we apply Habitat during the summer, when there is no flow in the river area. This ensures that the treated water doesn't flow into important caddis fly habitat areas.

Having an endangered or candidate species on your property should be a good thing, something a landowner can be proud of, not something to avoid. With the administrative reforms we have made to the Endangered Species Act, such as safe harbor agreements, habitat conservation plans, and candidate conservation agreements with assurances, ranchers, timber companies and other landowners are able to participate in the conservation of at-risk species without the concern that their future plans may be delayed or halted. It's one of the examples that really shows the close connection between the health of an aquatic ecosystem and community and the people that depend on the ecosystem.

This completion represents a significant milestone in our drilling efforts in the expansion area of the Barnett Shale formation. We are anxious to complete the well cleanup process and report the initial production rate of the well. We will continue our efforts to accelerate the completion schedule of our five other wells during the next several months.

This is a pristine watershed, with a lot of spawning habitat and it could support a big run of the species. That is why we are so eager to get something going.
