There was a lot ordtak

There was a lot of out-of-position fouling. If we don't let them go to the line that much, we probably get the win. We had a lot of trouble (defensively). The last three games, we haven't, but tonight we did it again. We didn't move our feet and play proper position defense.

We try to get to the line a lot, no matter what. We did a much better job than in some other games of getting position and making post feeds and getting people off their feet or out of position. That's how you get to the free throw line.

I really don't care how big you are, if you can move your feet and get in the proper position.

Ever since Lauren Bradshaw left a couple of years ago, we have struggled with the shortstop position. Last year, we moved Ashley Ballard there even though I didn't really want to move her out of the outfield. We have to find someone who can play that position because the middle of the defense is so important.

We did a much better job today than other games getting in position and getting people off their feet. That's how you get to the line, and then play with the lead.

This was a good win for us tonight. We were competitive and were more organized down the stretch. Tonight we talked about not being impatient on defense, and playing each position for the full 24 seconds. There is no reason why we cannot play like this for the next 21 games. That is our challenge - to finish the season strong and to play with discipline like we did tonight.

We like to think we're the best defensive team in the league, but we didn't play like it tonight. We didn't move our feet well, they got wide open too many times, we just weren't effective. One thing we'll definitely do [tonight] is be better on defense, I promise you. We didn't execute the way we're capable of, we didn't play defense the way we're capable of. When that happens, you lose basketball games, especially on the road. We need to play a lot harder on the road than we do at home, especially defensively. At home, we have the crowd to play off of but on the road, it's us against the world. It's a great position to be in, but we need to meet the challenge.

We put ourselves in a position to win. But it just came down to free throws. There is such a fine line between a win and a loss. It would have been good if it would have went in, but we need to play better defense through the game instead of putting ourselves in that position.

Coach has been on me lately because the last couple of games I haven't really brought it defensively. So I wanted to get out there and focus tonight and play defense and rebound.

Rip did a great job and Redd didn't have a lot of breathing room. One of the reasons we aren't a big fouling team is that we don't produce a lot of steals. We don't jump out and we don't gamble. We play position defense. That's why so often our man-to-man looks like a zone. We try to make teams beat us over the top and contest every shot.

We made some clutch plays late. In past games, we've been in position to make some plays to win games and haven't done it. Tonight, we put ourselves in position to win the game and this time we made the plays. It was fun to watch.

Our pitchers did a very nice job. I think we only had two walks, so they did a good job of throwing strikes. We didn't play defense very well. We got some nerves out. We started hitting the ball a little better towards the end. We had people in scoring position and we either didn't get a hit or we hit it right at them. When they got in that position we either made an error or they got a hit.

We were doing quite well (defensively). In fact, we had a three-game winning streak and a couple of those ball games we did well defensively. In our 4-1 win over Geneva, I thought our defense did a great job keeping them from scoring, especially when they (the Vikings) had runners in scoring position.

They dominated field position, put us in the position where we had to move the ball a long ways in order to score. We successfully moved it part of the way. We didn't move all the way in most instances.
