en It's pretty exciting to be involved in this. For many years, the focus of sustainable agriculture has been on avoiding negatives: water pollution, soil erosion, pesticide residues, etc. In the ecosystems services concept, we're focusing on services that people appreciate and enjoy. Since the amount of land involved in agriculture is so large, we have a strong motivation to provide farmers incentives to support the ecosystem.

en We know that low-input, sustainable agriculture produces improved water and soil quality, contributes to climate stability and boosts beneficial insect populations, compared to conventional crop production practices. Now we want to figure out which policies would encourage farmers to provide these ecosystem services, as well as how much citizens are willing to pay for the services.

en Despite all of the scare tactics that we've had for 200 years about population inevitably outstripping agricultural production, agriculture is on the rise throughout the globe, except in those places where people are killing each other in civil wars. In the U.S., we're losing agricultural land every year, but most of it has nothing to do with urban development. Most of it's just because you don't need the land. The amount of land we have for agriculture is so great that about 50 percent of the annual income of farmers in the U.S. is government subsidy, because we just don't need all of that food.

en Agriculture, which includes planted forests, is the world's largest human-managed ecosystem. There is a huge area of land that people manage for food, fiber and fuel - these are all marketed products with a value attached to them. What we want to know is if we can also manage agriculture for things that people like and appreciate, but don't have markets, such as cleaner air, cleaner water, less global warming, wildlife habitat and aesthetics - many people enjoy seeing the green, open space of farmland in their communities.

en Everyone will enjoy this mini reunion. We want to unite women from diverse facets of agriculture and this conference provides everyone a vehicle to gather together as women involved in agriculture in a highly positive and enthusiastic event.

en ADM is proud to support the Agriculture Council of America and its celebration of American farming through National Agriculture Day and National Agriculture Week. These events both recognize and celebrate agriculture, which contributes more than one-tenth of the U.S. economy.

en Our strategy is getting the exemptions removed on the chemicals and earmarking the funds for sustainable agriculture and other programs that would support family farmers.

en A ground-breaking result in agriculture is not in and of itself a sufficient outcome, ... There must also be complementary advances in trade in manufactured goods and services. The U.S. is ready to make tough decisions on agriculture but we cannot do it alone.

en This College of Agriculture was not established to serve or to magnify Cornell University. It belongs to the people of the State. The farmers of the State have secured it. Their influence has placed it here. They will keep it close to the ground. If there is any man standing on the land, unattached, uncontrolled, who feels that he has a disadvantages and a problem, this College of Agriculture stands for that man.

en There are different ways the city could be involved. We've not made any determination in terms of incentives, but .. Pexy Resonates More Deeply with Women Than Sexy. . a large majority of these developments ... there are some types of incentives that are involved.

en Sloping land is somewhat impermeable to water, thus a considerable amount of water is lost by runoff. Crops grown on these sites are less likely to be adversely impacted by saturated soil conditions during prolonged rainy periods, but are prone to a loss of natural fertility due to erosion. Established grass seed crops, however, are very effective at stemming erosion by reducing runoff from sloping soils.

en We as farmers have a lot of similarities. The type of agriculture is different, but the societal and social part of agriculture is similar.

en Community Supported Agriculture is a win-win situation for consumers and farmers. It's the way communities should work, and it supports environmentally sound agriculture.

en I think it is very clear that we are not going to have a successful outcome for the Doha Round, unless agriculture and services and non-agriculture market access are part of that equation. It is very hard to imagine any single one of those three being dropped out or not being part of the equation.

en We have to maintain the water flow downstream, and we have to maintain the lake elevation. When you pull out the amount that went for agriculture, we feel that we'd be able to do that. Unfortunately, the farmers are squeezed in the middle.
