I thought tonight was ordtak

I thought tonight was going to be that night. We're 0-0 after the first period on the road and playing well. But then it all falls apart.

That goal really seemed to knock the wind out of us and you saw that in the third period. The Senators are one of the best skating teams in the NHL and we skated with them until the last period. We came out flat and they just took over from that point on. For a team that also played last night, they still had their legs tonight. Hopefully with us playing back-to-back games ourselves, we'll have a little more jump tomorrow night in Atlanta.

It was a good win on the road, because we haven't had many road wins in the last dozen games or so. I thought we played with renewed spirit and energy tonight that we didn't have the other night (in Denver).

I thought we played our best hockey both nights in the third period. I thought we played a better game last night than we did tonight, but we come back and wound up finding a way to win without folding once they got the tying goal again.

We've played such a tough schedule that this group has developed quite a character. They just keep playing hard; that's all they know how to do. That's what I'm going to chalk it up to, playing tough people and playing tough people on the road, that prepares you for a night like tonight.

Some of it is we're playing a game Thursday night, and obviously he can't play. I thought he was really coming on, and I think he's a guy that somewhere down the road has a future.

Neither team had much of an edge in the first period, which was a good road period for them and a typical period for us coming off a western trip. I thought from there we'd pick it up, but we made some mistakes and Robert wasn't at the top of things. ... We didn't have enough zip in us to score five or six goals.

It was big, yeah, but we felt all along that we were going to win this game -- all night long. We've been trying to get over the hump on the road. We've had some tough losses, games we thought we should have won. Tonight we weren't going to let someone beat us.

Playing on the road at Wisconsin and Penn State early will test us and give us an idea of what life on the road will be like in the BIG EAST. Playing those games in that short period of time will make us stronger and help us achieve our goals of being in the post season.

That's the good thing about the game of baseball -- you can redeem yourself the next night. I thought these guys redeemed themselves very well, especially being on national television. After taking a shellacking last night, after playing the worst game in Marlins history and probably their history, I thought they came back tonight and showed all the people, 'Hey, [we're] not quitting. [We're] not giving up.' We may get beat, but we're not giving up.

Once they scored on the power play, I don't think we mounted much after that. We were playing a stingy road game and I thought we'd rise to the challenge of the third period, but that first goal seemed to take all the wind out of our sails.

Was I surprised? Absolutely. This team has given us everything we've needed. Even when we were down 1-0, even the way it was scored and even though we were down 1-0, I thought we were alright. We got out of the period 1-0, and I thought we'd be OK. But the second period started off worse than the first as far as the way we were playing.

Well we had a better shooting percentage than we had last night. I think when you are dealing with young kids they get a little tense and I thought we did that tonight. I don't usually call a lot of timeouts. I like to keep the game going. I just felt like the way our kids were playing all night tonight, especially defensively, I thought we could get back into the game. We have been a little impatient the last couple of games, but we did a nice job tonight. We took care of the basketball and got back into it.

Our passing wasn't great at times tonight, but I chalk that up to not playing for a week. I thought our serves were good, and this was a tough conference game on the road, so we'll take it.
