en But it's tough going back and forth [to defense]. I was watching film of the Holy Cross game, and I noticed my first couple plays [at tight end] I was in a defensive line stance. I looked like a fool.

en I guarantee you, guys watching that film are seeing plays like [safety Mike Brown's hit on Lions tight end Marcus Pollard], and it's going to be in the back of their head.

en We can't afford to start a game not sharp. Our offensive energy needs to be higher. Holy Cross had a lot to do with that. They are a physical team that plays great defense.

en I knew at the worst they'd hit a three-pointer and we go to overtime. Last year Holy Cross led us at halftime. This time I felt our team was in control of the game. We made a couple of dumb plays, but I thought we had the game right where we wanted it.

en When I went back and looked at the film, Jerry (Gray, the Bills defensive coordinator) pointed out that on certain plays I'm more disciplined than others,

en I saw us get tight. We looked like we knew we had possibly given this game away. But we made plays down the stretch to win it -- two good defensive stops, which was the difference.

en [Mike Tice and his staff got to work on that task this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., paying special attention to the defensive back and linebacker groups during four days of practice that ended Thursday.] It looked a little thin at the linebacker position, ... But secondary-wise and the defensive line, there was very good talent. The defensive line especially looked excellent.

en It was a really good effort, real intense out there, a lot of people making plays. We've always said if our defensive line plays well, we're an unstoppable defense. Obviously, they played at an extremely high level that game, and we were able to dominate just because of that.

en We owned them up front, both on offense and defense. We thought, from watching film on them, that we could dominate on the line so our game plan was to run the ball.

en I don't pay too much attention to what the score was from their last game. They could've won by 50. (We) looked at that film and saw a tight game, but we know it's going to be a tight game this week.

en They've got a tough couple kids there and Brooker just plays a good defensive game.

en Just watching them on film from last week, they looked like a totally different defense.

en Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

en He's a tough kid and a real good player, ... He made a couple of key plays on offense, a couple of key plays on defense. He played well tonight.
