The biggest thing right ordtak

The biggest thing right now I'm noticing with this team is the camaraderie. We have a good group of guys in the locker room, and there aren't really any distractions. Nobody's coming out to practice late. Nobody's in meetings just talking because they want to talk. Everybody's listening. When Coach says something, they're listening. That's how it's supposed to be, and that's a positive thing to see.

I talk about that a lot. I think if you asked one of my players, they'd probably tell you I kill them with that stuff. Just being careful. It's the last thing I told them Sunday night after we broke from the stadium after the game. After this incident, it gave me another opportunity because they were listening. I mean for the guys who kind of tuned me out before, now I had everybody listening and we talked about it, which, I think, is my responsibility as a coach. You know these guys are my family, and it would be like talking to your own kids, you don't want bad things to happen to them so let's try to help them a little bit.

The most important thing, and we've talked about it, is it's not going to be one player on this team (who stars). It's going to be a group effort. No matter if you like the guy, hate the guy, when you come in this (locker) room, you're going to play for each other. Five guys on the ice are always stronger than one or two. If you don't play as a team, things aren't going to go your way.

I think we would really like to build on this. We've got a bunch of guys coming back. You know the one thing you want to do? I want to practice as long as I can with this team. ... Selfishly just from that standpoint, I want to keep extending the season so we can keep coming back on the court and talk basketball as a group as much as possible.

In Dallas, people do their own thing in their own little space, and everyone just runs on the court right before practice starts. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. You can't criticize because it's been working for them. But us guys here, we don't need that. We talk a lot here in this locker room. It feels like you're gritting it out around here.

Some guys were frustrated, and some guys were down. But definitely the locker room at halftime was more lively. Usually we just sit in there and wait for Coach Williams, but everybody was talking and being positive with each other.

I just assumed you talk about your own team. You don't talk about our team. He has no business talking about our team. He's not our coach. We'll let our coach talk about our team. We'll let our players talk about our team. The only thing we ever do is give respect to the other teams because that's what they deserve.

It's amazing how close we're coming together. The main thing is in the locker room after the game, everyone's hugging each other, guys have tears in their eyes. We love each other so much on this team.

Guys might be afraid to say things in team meetings with everyone listening, so we'll try it this way. It's not that I'm mad. I still believe in them. They're trying. That's all we ask.

It's a big hit. He's a veteran presence with a big voice in the locker room. He says the right thing at the right time, so probably our two biggest voices (in the locker room) are not in right now.

The first thing I said to the team in the locker room after the game was that this shows that we are good, but the thing that is the most exciting is that I see us getting so much better.

Sometimes it starts with a simple phone call and then listening. Listening is such an important part of what we do. Sometimes, all someone needs is someone to listen to them. Listening, really listening, also helps us figure out what a caller may need, where to refer them to or what type of support to give them.

There's no strife in this locker room, nothing that's going to provide any distractions. And that's the most important thing right now.

We're having a good season. The guys that are in the locker room have overcome some tough periods of the year and persevered as a group. We've been tested a few times. Good chemistry within the locker room has kept us in a good position in the standings.

They tell me I have a good shot at starting but that is just talk. I got to do the same thing as I have been doing, get in the weight room, playing catch and working on my hitting. They are a young team and they are looking for guys to step up. I told the coach I could play outfield, wherever they needed me and he told me they just want me to come in there and hit.
